Running angling trips out of Big Pine Key, join Keys Boat Tours for a family-friendly outing to catch dinner and connect with nature.

Capt. Brian is on a mission to get you some fish. First, you’ll catch bait and then try different areas to bend the rods. Safety, fun, and catching dinner are the priorities! You’ll be using light tackle and various techniques, such as bottom fishing, depending on what you’re going after. As part of their 4-hour trips, you can target species like Snapper, Grouper, Cero Mackerel, Yellowtail Amberjack, and Bonito, depending on the current season and weather conditions.

Your fishing adventure starts on a 23’ Bulls Bay boat that can safely take up to 6 anglers. Everything you need is included in the price when it comes to rods, reels, and terminal tackle. You don’t need to worry about fishing licenses, as they will be provided and handled by the charter.

You’ll be able to keep any legal species caught during the trip, and catch cleaning and filleting are included. Bring your kids on for a fun fishing adventure, and make it a family trip! There will be bottled water and Gatorade onboard, but feel free to bring your favorite snacks and drinks if you want to.

    For the 1/2 day ocean side trip, we soend time live baiting and bottom fishing. We will bottom fish the patches for; mutton, grouper, other snapper (yellowtail and mangrove), and mackerel too. We might head out to the drop off at the reef 50’-100’ and live bait for some king and cero mackerel. We might drift fish for some big mutton too. If you’d rather troll, we can do that instead, but the catch results are far better with the former. Note: a 20% gratuity is customary but give what feels right.

    We depart the resort 4 hrs prior to sunset. We spend 1/2 hr or so tossing a cast net for pilchards (sardines). We then head to a coral head and live bait some, freeline live bait on a small hook and wire. We are looking cero mackerel and yellowtail. 1 1/2 hr before sunset, we go to 150’ in search of blackfin tuna and bonita, and maybe mahi-mahi. We troll artificial and live baits. As the sun sets, we expect the rods to bend over. We head in right after sunset. A bucket experience! Gratuity appreciated!

Captain Brian started sailing in and around the Florida Keys as an assistant instructor with Outward Bound in the 1980’s. The trips were an experience of a lifetime. Captain Brian went on to work for Outward Bound for three years; summers in Maine and winters in the FL Keys. Nearly 30 years later, Captain Brian has returned to the Keys to start his own tour guide business, Keys Boat Tours.
