Captain JR found spot after spot where they were biting! Deck hand, Andrew knew about every fish, hustled to keep all our lines baited, and spent time with each child reeling in catches and posing for photos! It was a stress-free, worry-free, incredibly enjoyable trip! We can’t say enough about Southern Star Charters!

This was my 6th trip fishing in the gulf and by far the best hands down. There were 8 of us. 8 limits of red snapper.  Caught vermillion and black snapper along with sea bass. Over 50 keepers total. Probably threw 60 back. The captain and deck hand were spot on. They knew their stuff and worked their tails off. Great guys and a great boat. Will use them again and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great experience fishing.

Our fishing trip was spot-on!! The boat was ready to go when we arrived at the marina. We received our safety instruction and left out for the ocean. Captain had advised that the ocean was a bit choppy but we would make it work. He kept us moving along with the fishing, finding nice spots for us to catch the red snapper, the Spanish mackerel, bonitas, even caught a couple trigger fish. The deck hand was phenomenal running between seven fishing adults. He was so friendly and knowledgeable about the different species of fish. He explained all the seasonal regulations around the fish we were catching. We learned a whole lot from our experience from him. We caught many fish, we threw back a lot too! We were joined momentarily by a couple dolphins who wanted to play. All in all, a great experience. If you have any type of motion sickness, take Dramamine before you go. My 7 year old grandson did not fare well but that has nothing to do with the crew or the boat. We had a great time and highly recommend Southern Star Outfitters to anyone looking for a good fishing experience.

These guys worked hard and went above and beyond to make sure we had a safe/great trip. The weather was not in our favor, but definitely not their fault.  (So sorry two of us were sick the whole time) We were glad to see our son in laws experience it for the first time.  We hope to book in the future, when the water is calmer. We highly recommend these guys. We cooked the fish tonight, they were great.

We had a group of 8 in our family trip. Several fish were caught amongst those who fished. The waters were rough because of the temperatures and time of year. If you suffer from motion sickness, I definitely recommend going when the weather is warmer. Overall, the boat was nice and clean, Captain JR was nice and explained everything in detail, Brad was helpful in making sure fish were caught and everyone was taking care of, and Sadie (pup) was a great first mate! I definitely recommend this as a family trip!
