Magic Tarpon Action Craft
Puerto Rico Magic Tarpon Charters is one of the largest and most respected light tackle operators in the San Juan area. The company usually fishes for Tarpon in the peaceful and productive La Torrecilla and San José Lagoons, where it is possible to catch huge fish in peaceful surroundings just a stone’s throw from the city and its major transport links.
The company’s 18ft Special Edition ActionCraft 1820 is the ideal vessel for fly fishing for Tarpon. Its large, unobstructed forward casting area and low, flat deck create perfect conditions for sighting Tarpon and casting flies. Rigged with an Evinrude E-TEC 150 engine, the boat travels quickly and reliably to the fishing grounds. Featuring a Garmin FishFinder, two livewells and plenty of storage room, it will accommodate up to three anglers comfortably.
It is no wonder that Puerto Rico is famous for its Tarpon fishing. The ‘Silver King’ swims the lagoons all year round, barely experiencing an off season. In addition to Tarpon, Snooks, Lady Fish, Jacks, small Barracuda and some Snapper also inhabit these waters, creating varied and interesting fishing trips. Puerto Rico Magic Tarpon usually spend the first part of their trips fishing for live bait such as Threadfin Herring, Anchovies and Sand Perch, which is then used throughout the trip. They also carry a variety of artificial lures. The company also makes its own flies for fly fishing. If you choose to fish with light tackle, you will most likely be using Shimano and Penn, while fly fishing rods are supplied by Scott, Sage and Orvis.
Brothers Karim and Armando Chaar operate Puerto Rico Magic Tarpon fishing charters. They have both fished the local lagoons since they were boys and have been featured on numerous TV shows on ESPN2, Sunsports TV and Worldwide Fishing Network. They focus on providing a professional and courteous service using high quality, well-maintained fishing gear on clean and well-equipped boats.
