Most Excellent Fishing – Offshore
There’s a fish with your name on it in Placida and Most Excellent Fishing will help you catch it! Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Nick can tell you all about them.
Local species include Grouper, Red Snapper, Amberjack, African Pompano, Lane Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, various Sharks, and more, depending on the season. You can expect to do some free lining, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
Families making a day of it will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Bring whatever refreshments you like on board. Bottled water and ice are provided.
You’ll find yourself aboard a Blackfin 272 with room for 4 passengers. Up to 6 passengers can come, but only 4 will be fishing at a time. Rods, reels, and tackle are covered by the charter, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates often work for tips, and it’s customary to offer them a 10–20% tip. It’s recommended to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen (non-spray). Alcohol is allowed in moderation. Just be sure to avoid hard liquor and glass bottles. The charter boat covers your fishing license.
Keep in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. If you don’t know what to expect, ask the captain. Capt. Nick is also a federal permit holder, which allows him to take you past the line into deeper water for different species.
