Captain and first mate were terrific - great guys, fun, helpful, knowledgeable, etc. I would recommend them any day.
Boat and equipment were first rate.
We caught a lot fish, although nothing that big
Cons/Be aware of:
Once you catch your limit you are done fishing - regardless of how long you’ve been out. We booked a half day afternoon trip on Saturday and a full day morning trip on Sunday. On Sunday we caught our limit within 90 minutes - we were done for the day. There is no catch and release so that you can continue fishing. Next time I will be sure to insist that we fish for a different species if we catch our limit early.
Be sure to ask if you’ll be catching just one species or a variety. The websites will list several, but depending on the season you might be fishing for and catching just one kind of fish. Could get boring after a while.
We traveled about 80-90 minutes to reach our fishing spot. More travel time equals less fishing time.
We fished in about 10 feet of water and dropped our lines straight down. When we caught a fish it was in the boat in about 30 seconds.
Every boat in the area fished in the same spot - they all go to where the fish are biting. You could be surrounded by 20+ boats.
Although we caught quite a few fish, it IS possible that you’ll catch zero.
I think the time of year is the most important factor. It determines what kind of fish you catch, how many, and how big. Might determine travel time in the boat as well.
