I booked this charter originally for three people but two backed out at the last minute so I went solo. Was met promptly at the agreed location and was on the boat by 7am sharp. The boat was a modest panga stocked with plenty of beer, snacks, water and soda. Captain Novell asked what kind of fish I was looking to catch and as this was my first time in CR I left it up to him. 5 minutes into the trip we saw breaching humpback whales and tons of tortoises. Started to troll and hooked up on some blackfin tuna almost immediately. Within the next two hours we caught 3 yellowfin and a couple more blackfin. Novell asked if I wanted to do some jigging so we did and had no luck. Tried out some bottom fishing and lost what I can only assume were some giants. Went back to trolling for the remainder of the day and hooked three more yellowfin. I can’t recommend these guys enough. Not big conversationalists but they definitely know what they’re doing and where the fish are. I left with at least 20lbs of cleaned tuna that I cooked no more than an hour later and was delicious.

I read the reviews for this company and like most people went right to the bad ones which, in my opinion, were unwarranted. You should do your research before booking a charter. Mainly, know the season,  the weather and the conditions. If you’re on an open boat in high seas, you WILL get wet. That’s not the fault of the captain. And remember, it’s called fishing, not catching.

Our captain was fighting some tough conditions and did his best to get us hooked up! I said I wanted to catch a rooster and he got us some, also every time he passed any trash in the ocean he stopped to pick it up to conserve and clean our natural resources, I appreciated that. He and his crewmate worked hard for us. I wanted to fish with a lure on a spinning rod and he got me what I wanted and made opportunities for me to fish from the front of the boat with the lure when we saw bait fish boiling , in between times of trolling and that was fun! Caught a couple bonito doing that on light tackle and it was cool.
Also we saw dolphins, and even two of what I think were humpback whales breaching and tail slapping. Snacks and drinks on the boat, I ate basically the equivalent of two whole pineapples

Within the first hour we’d already caught 4 fish.  We ended up catching a total of 4 yellow fin tuna and 4 black fin tuna.  Captain Novel tried very hard to get us a marlin or sailfish, they just weren’t biting on our trip, certainly not his fault.  My husband got off the boat and we went directly to a restaurant to have his fresh catch prepared into a poke bowl for lunch!  We caught too much to eat ourselves, we had to give most of it away as it was the last day of our trip.  Highly HIGHLY recommend!!  Superior communication with Josh!  If we ever come back we will be booking with them again for sure!

The two of us set out in the afternoon with modest expectations and were slightly amused when Captain Novel told us outright we were going for yellow fish tuna. In fairly calm conditions we set off straight out, enjoying the sun and the blue sea. After just one hour we encountered a huge school of dolphins, swimming close to the boat or performing spectacular jumps further away. There were hundreds of them. It was then that Captain Novel shouted : “atún, atún”,  and literally within minutes we had the first strike, a good 8 pounder yellowfin tuna. In quick succession, we caught six more, all within less than half an hour. It was tough work but highly enjoyable. —It is well known that schools of tuna often times follow dolphins, so sighting dolphins means plenty fo fishing activity! (The presumably feed at a greater depth that the dolphins do so catching the tuna can be done without risking the dolphins getting involved). —- The sight of the masses of highly acitive dolhins around the boat was a spectacle in its own right, and the catch just crowned it all.—Couldn’t have been better! Captain Novel and first mate Stuart were great, professional and good-humoured!

Booked an afternoon half day trip and had a great time. We started offshore targeting mahi but the fish were not biting. Captain Novel was able to put us onto a couple of nice black fin tuna though. I knew that the afternoon bite can be slow so was happy to at least land a couple. We saw a ton of dolphins, sea turtles, and a couple of flying fish. Definitely will book again, but won’t wait till the last minute so we can get out o. The early run.
