These waters are known for Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, Calico Bass, Halibut, Rockfish, Pacific Barracuda, Bonito, Skipjack Tuna, Lobster, and more – with any luck, it won't be long before "Fish on!" For these species, you're likely to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle. Capt. Pablo also offers kite fishing. For the more adventurous among you, there's spearfishing.
Thinking of bringing the whole family? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board.
Your fishing machine for the day is the Kate Elizabeth. She is a 33' Boston Whaler sport fishing vessel with room for 6 passengers. It has outriggers and everything else you need for a productive day on the water. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Your captain will provide rods and reels, along with lures. Live bait is provided as needed and included with trips.
Before coming aboard, you'll need to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. It's recommended to bring sunglasses, and sunscreen. Water and Gatorade is included, free of charge. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be some light snacks. during and after the trip. An industry standard tip of 10-20% is greatly appreciated! Gratuity should be based on the performance, professionalism, and knowledge of the Captain and crew. As a rule of thumb 10-20% average and good service 20% and up = excellent/outstanding!

Absolutely amazing experience with Fernandez Charters! Captain Pablo is the real deal — incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and just an all-around fun guy to fish with. He put us right on the fish and kept the energy high the whole time. What really stood out was how patient and skilled he was with my nephew, who had never been fishing before. Pablo took the time to teach him everything, from casting to reeling in, and made sure he had an unforgettable first fishing trip. Daniel, he’s hooked for sure! Favorite part is when he said he wants you to give him a rod and reel for his Birthday! That’s what it’s all about! Getting kids stoked on fishing!
Captain Pablo was outstanding. He put us on the fish right away and kept the action going. When the bite slowed and the fish were small, he didn’t hesitate to move, check new patties, and keep things exciting. He even wrapped up the day with some fun in the harbor catching bass and happy hour. Friendly, easygoing, and never stingy with his effort, overall great experience!

I recently went on a fishing charter in San Diego with Captain Pablo, and it was an incredible experience. Our group of six targeted rockfish, and we had a fantastic day on the water, catching a ton of Scorpion Fish, Red Fish, and a variety of others. Captain Pablo was not only knowledgeable but also a great teacher. He took the time to help each of us improve our fishing techniques, making the trip both educational and fun. The boat was spotless and fully equipped with everything we needed for a successful day of fishing. Overall, it was a memorable trip, and I recommend Captain Pablo for anyone looking to have a great fishing adventure in San Diego.
