The ‘West Wind’ is a 55’ Randall flybridge cruiser that is powered by a 740HP Detroit engine. It is a very stable and safe boat, and the largest fishing vessel in the state of Victoria. It comes equipped with all of the necessary safety requirements, two GPS and two depth sounders. St Kilda Charters specialise in bottom fishing for species such as Snapper, Pinkie (baby Snapper), Gummy Shark, King George Whiting, Slimy Trevally, Garfish and Flathead, depending on the season. They offer 5 hour fishing charters, which run morning, afternoon and at twilight, as well as Snapper trips from October to December. Trips include the use of quality rods, reels, tackle and bait, as well as breakfast or BBQ lunch, cordial, and tea/coffee in the colder months. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol (limit of two drinks per person). Fishing licences need to be organised separately prior to your trip.

All trips are subject to weather conditions, and number of passengers booked (a min of 12 people is needed for charters to run).

Overall was good experience. The captain went through emergency procedures & took us to areas with more fishes once the catch slowed down. The only setback was there were too many people on the deck that could tangle your fishing rods & limit your catch. Sometimes you may experience loosing your hooks but the captain and his assistant will quickly get it fixed or give you the extra rods prepared earlier. The food provided was great but coffee & tea could have been served more than once.
The captain’s assistant looked quite agitated if he had to do a lot of things like fixing rods, untangling rods and getting people organised on deck.

Went on the early morning trip, weather was good and lots of fish was caught by all, although very small in size and little was big enough to keep.  Plenty of BBQ for everyone, although we didn’t have time to each much as the fish were continually biting.  Will definitely go again in warmer weather. Paul the Captain was friendly and very knowledegable.
