These waters are known for big Largemouth Nannygai, Spangled Emperor, Sweetlip Emperor, Cobia, Giant Trevally, Barramundi, Queenfish, Golden Trevally, Coral Trout, Narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel, Longtail Tuna, and more – with any luck, they’ll make your reel scream. On the day of your trip, you’re likely to troll and bottom fish using light tackle. Capt. Gavin also offers topwater fishing for big GTs, just enquire about this option so this can be added to your adventure
Port Douglas Sportfishing welcomes kids aboard, so the whole family can come and unplug for the day! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are also a good idea so that nobody gets cranky on an empty stomach!
Your adventure begins aboard an 18’ Eagle Ray center console that holds up to 5 passengers. It comes with all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Capt. Gavin will supply rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.
You will need to buy a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect. A few items to bring include sunscreen (non-spray), and sunglasses. Drinks are included, free of charge. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Half Day Trip – Inshore Reef (AM)
Perfect morning of fishing with a friendly and knowleable captain
We had an awesome fishing trip with Captain Gavin out at the inshore reef off Port Douglas. The conditions were perfect, and Gavin made the whole experience fun, easy, and productive. We caught a great range of reef fish throughout the morning, with plenty of action to keep everyone excited. The highlight was bringing home two beautiful coral trout, which made for an absolutely delicious lunch! Gavin’s local knowledge and professionalism really made the day. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just out for some fun on the water, I’d highly recommend a trip with Captain Gavin — a top-notch fishing charter experience in Port Douglas!

Half Day Trip – Estuary (PM)
Awesome and amazing and awesome
The title is a direct quote from my 15 year old daughter. Gavin was an amazing captain. First is methodical approach to fishing is really cool. He explained how to get right bait, the right tide, and the spot. He has a very "be the fish" approach. One of my 15 year old twins is very into both fishing and engineering. While we waited for our fish to bite, Gavin explained how all of the equipment worked. It was incredible. My other 15 year old daughter I relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful day in the estuary. Gavin also explained how the estuary system worked and about the wildlife there as well as in the reef. Gavin is definitely a "girl dad". It was the low season and the water was cooler so we only caught one fish but it was a half meter long so it made for a plentiful and delicious dinner. Everyone will enjoy fishing with Gavin but if you have daughters this is your captain!

Gavin was an awesome captain. He was really knowledgable and showed us heaps of good sights in the estaury. We caught some fish, saw a croc and had a great time. My 2 kids (8 & 12) both caught a fish with Gavin’s help and had the best time! I would highly reccomend to anyone!!

the perfect day
we met gav , champion bloke straight up guy caught loads of different species of fish i would definitely go with gav again and again nothing was a hassle he gets that excited that you catch the fish probably even more than yourself thanks agian gav cheers krist and Nate

Thanks Gavin, we had such a fun day. So patient and helpful. Making sure we went to different areas to ensure we caught some fish and also taught us amateurs how to fish. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back to PD to go out and try the outer reef. Thanks Gavin!
