Cal Tropic Tours is all about fishing the stunning waters of Hopkins. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Elwin is prepared to put you on fish.
Depending on conditions, you might hook into Great Barracuda, Mahi Mahi, Gag Grouper, African Pompano Jack, Horse-eye Jack, Jack Crevalle, King Mackerel (Kingfish), and whatever else is biting. For these species, you’re likely to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle.
If you’re traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are never a bad idea – lucky for you, there will already be some on board!
You’ll be dropping lines from a 28’ Wahoo center console with a capacity for 6 passengers. It comes with all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Capt. Elwin will provide rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. A 10–20% tip is customary to show your appreciation for their hard work.
You might need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen (non-spray), a hat, and sunglasses. Drinks are included, free of charge. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks included on board.
You could keep reading this, but wouldn’t you rather be fishing with Cal Tropic Tours?
