I recently went on a fishing trip with Captain Shawn and Kenny, and while we didn’t land any game fish this time, the experience was still fantastic! The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about fishing, providing great tips and making the whole trip enjoyable.

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and spending the day on the water was incredibly relaxing. The guide’s enthusiasm and expertise turned what could have been a disappointing day into a memorable adventure. We were treated to beautiful views and interesting local insights, making the journey itself a highlight.

Overall, it was a great day out, filled with camaraderie and the joy of being on the water. Sometimes, it’s not just about the catch but the experience, and this trip was a perfect example of that. I would definitely recommend Makana Lani for anyone looking for a well-organized and enjoyable fishing experience. Looking forward to my next trip with them!

My 10 year old Dtr said “it was really fun and cool experience “. She called it “wack a mole” when getting the fish on the boat and in the fish bag.  We were put on a Wahoo within 30 minutes of lines in the water!!  Jason and Shawn were very educated and helpful with getting lines out of the water and figuring out the timing between reeling all 3 wahoo in and moving aside for safety purposes.  Even my wife (who usually just reads on fishing trips) loved it !  I reluctantly admit my wife caught the bigger fish 😁.  We grilled The wahoo the same day for lunch and it was fantastic.  You can’t beat this 4 hour fishing trip for the money!

Captain Shawn and Jordan were awesome to hang with on our 3/4 day fishing trip. Prior to the trip Shawn communicated great and checked in with me the day before our trip and gave clear instructions on where and when to meet. We drove to the marina the day before to make sure we knew where to go so we wouldn’t be late. They were prompt and very helpful loading our stuff. They had plenty of ice cold water for us. It was my little family of four and the boat was perfect for us. My kids are 8 and 10 and enjoyed the trip and time spent, it was important to me that the captain allow kids and have space for them in the shade and Shawn’s boat fit us well. It was a perfect day to be on the water just not the greatest day for fishing. I’ve always said a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. We swapped fishing stories to pass the time, Shawn and Jordan both had plenty. Jordan, being a Kona native, was like our own private tour guide sharing facts and history of the island. Both were very experienced in fishing and knowledgeable of what needs to be done to catch fish but unfortunately for us it was a slow day on the water and that was true for other boats, as the radios were pretty quiet all day. When we come back we definitely will book with Makana Lani again and I can’t wait to hear about all the new stories they have from great people he meets and takes fishing. His business may be new and just getting started but clearly this is what Shawn and Jordan were born to do.

My wife and I had a great trip fishing with Sean and Jordan.  These guys are professional, have a great boat and equipment and know how to use it.  They both were very friendly and helpful.  Jordan shared a lot of knowledge he has learned in several years as a Captain about the environment and fishing off of Kona.  We caught a blue marlin (about 100#s) and a striped marlin (about 35#s).  Jordan fileted the smaller marlin and shared the catch.  Highly recommend this trip.  We caught fish when the boats around us were having little if any success.

What a great day on the water with Captain Shawn and Jason of Makana Lani Fishing! Shawn and Jason were professional and knowledgeable and knew where to go for the fish. Great personalities and had a great time! We have enough MahiMahi for four people for another week! I would not hesitate to book another trip with Makana Lani Fishing!  Mahalo!
