Depending on conditions, you might hook into Black Drum, Mahi Mahi, Flounder, Scamp Grouper, Grunt, Scup (Porgy), Black Seabass, Vermilion Snapper, Red Snapper, Speckled Trout, Gray Triggerfish, Wahoo, and who knows what else! On these trips, it’s common to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle.
Planning a family adventure? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Feel free to bring your own snacks to ward off any mid-trip fatigue!
Capt. Ray will bring you aboard a 27’ Carolina Skiff center console with room for 6 passengers. It comes with outriggers, downriggers, and everything else you need for a productive day on the water. There’s a port-a-potty on board for your convenience. Your captain will provide rods and reels, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.
A First Mate will be there on longer trips to make sure everything is running smoothly. It’s customary to tip the Mate 10–20% to show your appreciation.
Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, so you can drive right over and come aboard without any hassle! Be mindful that some species may have special rules or limited seasons. If you don’t know what to expect, ask the captain.
It’s never a bad idea to bring sunscreen (non-spray), and sunglasses. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
