South Padre Island has a fish with your name on it, so let South Water Charters help you catch it! Your guide for the day is Captain Skylar, allowing you to benefit from years of local experience.
Local species include Permit, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Redfish, Pompano, Whiting, King Mackerel (Kingfish), Black Drum, Sheepshead, Snook, and more, depending on the time of year. You'll target your catch by light tackle fishing, drifting, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Skylar can also have you Flounder gigging.
Thinking of bringing the whole family? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are permitted onboard — bring your favorites so that nobody gets cranky on an empty stomach!
You'll be casting lines from a 24' Starcraft pontoon boat that holds up to 10 passengers. It comes with a fighting chair and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Skylar has rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Captain Skylar is a great guy and easy to fish with. He’s friendly, patient, and keeps the day fun from start to finish. His pontoon setup is comfortable, steady, and perfect for families — plenty of room, shade, and a relaxed vibe on the water. Even with tough conditions, he stayed positive and kept us moving and trying new spots. If you want a laid‑back, family‑friendly trip with a captain who works hard and makes the day enjoyable, he’s a solid choice.
took my wife and 6 year old grandaughter. my grandaughter got to reel in an 18" speckled trout. My wife was not looking forward to the excursion but afterwards said she had a lot of fun and would do it again. our captain Skylar was very friendly and knowledgeable abut fishing that just added to the whole experience. we were able to catch some speckled trout and afterwards captain Skylar even recommended a great restaurant where we could take our catch and they cooked it up for us. a special treat was captain Skylar spotted a pair of dolphins jumping in the water on our way in. his boat has shade and a private potty if you happen to need one. highly recommend.
Captain Skylar gave us an absolutely unforgettable day on the water! From the moment we left the dock, his knowledge, professionalism, and enthusiasm made the trip a fantastic experience. He knew exactly where to go and worked hard to keep us on the fish all day. We caught an incredible variety, including speckled trout, redfish, black drum, and even a hard-fighting crevalle jack that made for an unforgettable battle! Captain Skylar was there every step of the way with helpful tips, encouragement, and a great attitude. Whether you're an experienced angler or it's your first time fishing, he makes sure everyone has an amazing time. The boat was spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped, and Captain Skylar's friendly personality made the trip even more enjoyable. We couldn't have asked for a better day or a better guide. This was our kids’ first experience bay fishing and Captian Skylar made it so much fun! He was great with the kids and explained everything to them, from how the currents and wind can affect fishing to how certain fish prefer different kinds of bait. My son actually learned a lot! The fish weren’t as active at first but he went out of his way to try all the spots to make sure we caught as many fish as possible! The boat was clean and comfortable and the shaded canopy was definitely a plus. He made our comfort top priority. Would highly recommend this trip and will definitely be booking with him again!
Captain Wilhite was an outstanding captain and guide. We brought our two boys, ages 6 and 7, on their very first fishing trip, and he went above and beyond to make sure they felt comfortable, welcomed, and had a great time. He patiently walked them through the fishing process and kept them engaged throughout the trip. He was also friendly and personable with my wife and me, making the entire experience enjoyable for our family. His boat was clean, well-maintained, and clearly cared for. Best of all, we hit our limit! We highly recommend Captain Wilhite and look forward to fishing with him again.
