Captain Greg Rynearson is one top-notch skipper.  He’s knowledgeable, friendly, full of information, and most importantly, he put me on fish.  Lots of fish.  On my half-day excursion, we caught Amber Jack, Trigger Fish, Red Snapper (which we had to release as I was not fishing on the weekend), and Cobia.  He was a phenomenal guy and I highly recommend him if you are wanting a great fishing experience in the Ft. Walton Beach area.

We asked to catch a small shark then to catch other fish. We also paid for a total of 5 people to fish and we’re only allowed to have 2 poles in the water. After catching our bait fish we went to the first spot with no luck. Then we went to a second spot which took almost an hour. We did hook a very big shark but after fighting it for 45 minutes the captain wanted to drag it with the boat and it broke the line. I have terminal cancer and just wanted to catch a small shark because it had been a lifetime dream of mine to do so. After the line broke he said we would go too calmer water and let everyone fish for a little while longer but after we got in calmer water he did not stop and we went back to the dock. This was the biggest rip off I have ever experienced in my life and would not recommend this charter to any one.

When this trip was booked your wife stated that as a terminally ill cancer patient it was your “lifelong dream to catch a shark”.  I called and spoke with her and confirmed that this trip was for you and that shark fishing would be our focus.  We only had 4 hours to make your dream come true and I worked hard to make sure it did.  The original trip was scheduled for April 29, but after looking at the marine forecast (3-4’ seas) I called and moved your trip up one day to be able to take advantage of calmer seas.
Our day began catching bait with sabiki rigs in 2-3’ seas with a strong current.  Under these conditions I only utilize 2 rods at a time to avoid tangles and break offs.  I asked all on board if they wanted to help catch bait and only three chose to join in.  After filling the live well we proceeded 6 miles off shore in 2-3 foot seas.  Under these conditions the boat ride was 25 minutes.  The bite was slow and after 5 missed bites I decided to move and find a more productive bite.  The seas were building and we headed north and into a 3-4’ quartering head sea.  We moved about 5 miles and this took about 25 minutes as well.
Within 5 minutes of dropping our baits Jimmy was hooked up to a MONSTER shark!  I have absolutely no control over the size of the fish that take the bait and Jimmy and his son in law battled this massive shark for almost an hour!  While the fight was on the 3 other family members had become terribly sea sick and after taking all they could, Jimmy’s wife asked Jimmy to end the battle.  I maneuvered the boat to try to turn the Sharks head and get him to come up and unfortunately the line broke.  I hated that we were not able to land this monster, but sometimes the fish win!  We were 30 minutes from our time being up and we headed in.  From the look of the 3 sea sick passengers my judgement was to get them to the dock as quickly as possible. We returned to the dock after 41/2 hours.
I explained to Jimmy and his family in our way out that with only 4 hours it would be difficult to fish for anything other than sharks if we didn’t get a bite quickly on the first stop.  If we didn’t shark fishing would be our focus until we got what Jimmy wanted to fulfill his life long dream.  Although we didn’t land the monster shark, Jimmy did get to battle the biggest fish he had ever hooked and expierience the pure strength and hard fight of one of Gods amazing creatures.  I hope that your videos and pictures will help remind you of your epic battle.
I have always worked hard and will always work hard to fulfill my customers wishes.  Sometimes, things aren’t perfect, I can not control the seas, the bite or the size of the fish that take the bait.  I will always remember this trip and take pride in knowing I did my best to make your life long dream come true.  We didn’t land the beast, but what a fight!
Capt. Greg
