Captain Joel Taylor offers fun charter fishing trips from Galveston, Texas. He offers full day and half day trips that take place in the Galveston Bay complex and beyond into the Gulf.
Your vessel will be a 26 ft Tiara center console boat that is powered by a 200 HP Mercury engine. Featuring a GPS, fishfinder, and VHF radio, as well as an ice box and a live bait tank, the boat is fully equipped to take up to six guests on their next fishing adventure.
While Captain Joel is a big fan of Shark fishing, he also targets a range of other local species, such as Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder, as well as nearshore and offshore species like Amberjack, Cobia, Mahi Mahi, and King Mackerel. He fishes with live and dead bait, bottom fishing, trolling and drift fishing to put you on your target fish.

Captain Joel was a wonderful captain. Very knowledgeable and straight-forward about fishing, and easy to joke around with and have fun. We started out by the jetties and caught a couple ribbon fish for cut bait, then went a little further out and drifted for sharks. Got plenty of bites, but only a few good hook-ups, getting 2 gafftops and 2 sand sharks in the boat. Could have been better, but that’s not the fault of the captain at all, just the fish and our group containing mostly inexperienced fishermen. If you don’t know how to use the equipment he has, please ask him or let him handle setting the hooks and getting the bait out! Some of the equipment is fairly old, but still very much functional. The boat was a little small for 6 fishermen, the captain, the deck hand (who was a very nice, very talkative lady), and a cooler, but it’s easily manageable if you don’t mind a little squeezing around each other and you try to avoid the occasional spill due to waves. Overall, Joel is a great laid-back captain for those who want someone who will relax and talk and maybe have a beer with you while you fish. This trip was beyond my expectations due to it being the cheapest all day offshore charter I could find in the area. Joel won’t be doing this for a whole lot longer before he retires, so book a trip while you can!
