Redbone Sportfishing Charters is dedicated to Florida flats fishing with Captain Gary Ellis who knows every nook and curve where the fish like to spend their days and will take you there. He has been fishing the area for over 30 years, and is a passionate tournament participant - having been a president of the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series, a non-profit organization which collects funds to fight Cystic Fibrosis since 1988. He founded the organization after his newborn daughter NIcole was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and has since made an impact on the research which in turn has helped prolong the lives of sufferers from teenage years to mid thirties. Captain Gary and his wife Susan continue to fundraise for this cause.

HIs boat is an 18 foot Action Craft flats boat, which was originally built in 2008, and is powered by a 115 HP MERCURY Opti-Max engine with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots. About the Captain

Gary Ellis
Islamorada, Florida, United States
Member since March 2016
I've fished since I was four years old. I started with my father and brother fishing for Salmon and even Smelt on the Columbia River in Oregon. In college I studied drama, radio and TV speech. I worked in Chicago as a free lance actor and model. In 1967, after the snow storm of the century, I came to Florida Keys with the idea of returning to the "Big City" when it thawed out. I never went back. I decided I wanted a life on the water and got a job as a mate. I had a friend that would take me "backcountry" on my days off. I logged enough hours as a mate (300 days) to qualify for my captains license. In 1970 I bought an almost new 17' Willy Roberts flats skiff with an 85 hp engine for $1500 and went to work as the only guide at Plantation Yacht Harbor, (now Founders Park) on Plantation Key, Florida, near Islamorada. I lived in Islamorada on the same street as the guide, Jim Brewer, who was pro-rep for Shakespeare Tackle Co.
