Description

Fish the inshore and nearshore areas around Port Isabel and South Padre Island with a young guide who is full of enthusiasm for fishing in the local area. Captain Tony Matagoya owns and operates SouthTexasAngler Island Excursions, and he has spent his whole life learning the best techniques for fishing in the local area.

Captain Tony fishes aboard a 21 ft Mayak center console that has been recently restored to make it the perfect vessel for fishing the local area. Holding up to five guests, the boat can access extremely shallow water while also being able to handle chop well. It is powered by a Suzuki 4-stroke engine for speed and efficiency, and has an ice box on board to keep your drinks cool throughout the trip.

During your trip you could be fishing for any of a wide number of fish species, from Redfish, Trout, and Flounder, to Sheepshead, Snook, and Snappers (all depending on the season and the conditions). You have the choice of fishing with live bait or artificial lures, with cut bait also occasionally used. If you are keen on wade fishing, that is also possible with SouthTexasAngler.

In the words of the captain: “fishing the Lower Laguna Madre Area is great fun with so many opportunities and different species of fish we target… From sun up to sun down the fish love to feed so hop on with me for a memorable Life Experience.”

Tony has shown me that he is not only passionate about fishing the Gulf and the Laguna but he knows his stuff. I learned so much from him in so little time. No matter if it’s offshore or bay fishing or wading Tony will put you on fish day or night. I highly recommend his services.
