Trip Summary

Yesterday we welcomed Mitch, Marsha, Grayson & Ethan aboard GOOD DAY for a full day offshore trip out of Quepos, Costa Rica. We headed 23 miles to a location where good numbers of Sailfish & a Marlin or two had been caught the previous day. The water looked perfect, there were birds in the area and several trash lines holding bait. Then we got the radio call that other boats had found Tuna 11 miles further away so we pulled the lines in and ran to where the Tuna were. We found two different pods of Spinner Dolphins with some REALLY nice Tuna busting alongside them. Unfortunately the other boats had beaten us to it and the Tuna seemed skittish and did not want to eat our live baits despite our best efforts. Later in the day the Radio call came that a sailfish bite was on at the location we first fished with a couple of boats releasing 4 Sailfish each. We headed back in that direction and managed to catch 1 Sailfish in the final minutes of the day which proved to be 16 year old Grayson's first Sailfish - great job! On the way back to the Marina we did a quick bit of inshore fishing with our remaining live baits & 14 year old Ethan caught a nice Jack which put up an excellent fight to end the day. We seen lots of Turtles, hundreds of Spinner Dolphins & a couple of pods of Common Dolphins. The late afternoon weather was simply stunning and we were treated to a glass like Sea on the ride home. Another fun day on the water!
