My father wanted to charter fish out of Panama City, FL when I was 12 years old. We started our charter fishing business in 1965. We have continued in the charter fishing business for over 50 years as Capt Bob Zales Zodiac Charter Fleet as we once owned and operated 5 vessels. We now own and operate 1 vessel, LEO TOO, and are located behind Capt Anderson's restaurant at Capt Anderson's Marina on Panama City Beach.

We had a great time. We were under the impression that there would be a little time for fishing, but that did not happen so heads up on that if you were planning to fish. Overall it was beautiful and fun to go out on the water!

Thanks for the trip and we are glad y’all had a good time.  Enjoy your spring break on Panama City Beach.  Sorry about the confusion about fishing. Our minimum trip for fishing is 4 hours.  Next time y’all come to PCB maybe y’all would like to try some fishing.  Thanks again, y’all were a good group.

Well we went out on a 6 hour trip starting at 6:00 am. but first stopped by for some live bait. Gave the gentleman $30 and we slowly made our way past the jetties.  Most of the boat seemed to “punch it” at this point but we slowly chugged along at about 9knots. We then stopped off near a school of bait fish and spent about 15 minutes trolling for King Mack. 4 rods in the water, 2 of which got tangled while trolling cause the captain changed direction. 1 real had action so we reeled in a small King Mack and then set off to our offshore destination.

Nearly 2 hours later (8:15) we arrive to the “spot” and began dropping lines. A few hits and misses later we pulled them in and moved to another spot, repeat, repeat, repeat.

At 10:30 we get told that it’s time to head in which again took 2 hours. All told, We may have dropped a line 30-40 times.  For $1200 I am definitely disappointed in the crew (which included a foul mouthed first mate and a captain that collected our money and never said another word to us) and the 60lbs of fish caught between 9 people.

I feel that had we not went so slow we could have doubled our time fishing. And, we used just 4 of the bait fish I purchased.

Maybe he was trying to conserve diesel to pad his margins but at the risk of very poor customer satisfaction.

Keep looking.

I am sorry Mr. Rich and his party say they did not have a good fishing trip.  His comments about the mate are surprising since they gave him a $150 tip.  Apparently he is also not familiar with the charter fleet in Panama City as the majority of the charter boats cruise between 8 and 13 knots.  The LEO TOO cruises between 9 and 10 knots.  The boats he says “punched it” are private fishing boats that depart at the same time as the charter fleet.
Unfortunately all fishing trips are not the same, the people are different, conditions, different, and while we strive to catch as many legal fish that the government will allow some days the catch is better than others.  Mr. Rich had 9 people in his party and we did indeed fish several spots which is routine in our business.  This is because we are always looking for a better spot.
Mr. Rich booked a 6 hour trip which was fished on 8-19-16.  We had an identical 6 hour trip today but with only 6 people.  The trip today was also booked for 6AM but the party was late so we we had 20 minutes less time fishing.  Attached are the pictures from both trips.  As you can see today’s trip was more successful.  This is simply because we fished spots that produced better today than the spots fished yesterday.  We fished in the same overall area, approximately 18 miles offshore, and made the same speed, 9 to 10 knots, but had less fishing time on the trip today because the party was late.  This is simply an example of why trips are called “fishing”, the opportunity to catch, and not catching as some trips are more successful than others.
I just needed to clarify the information on the review.
