It was a great experience. I was in New Orleans just for a weekend, and I wanted to try bayou fishing and catch whatever species there. I caught decent Redfish, Black Drum and Sheaphead. All fish was released as I was staying at a hotel but they were good size for eating. After the trip I met a lady who did not catch anything from the shore at the same time we were having constant bites (including Pinfish, I must say). I was pleased to fish with such a great Captain who is kind, friendly and attentive.

I took the kayak trip, driving down from New Orleans for a few hours of fun.  We started early before it got too warm and immediately we started nailing good sized Redfish by casting weedless spoons.  I caught my limit of 5 in around 4 hours of fishing and lost a few that I should have landed.  The guide is very helpful.  He gave me a lot of tips and didn’t even fish for the first hour or two, just hanging back in his separate solo skiff so as to avoid spooking the fish.  This type of fishing is about carefully stalking the Redfish as they feed on crabs, etc.  You can see the tails of larger fish as they forage the bottom.  They hit hard and fight like hell.  Two of the five exceeded 6 lbs.  You need good tackle to land these fish and this guide service delivers with top of the line equipment.  I never had a break-off due to tackle.  We ended with a nice shore lunch where a freshly caught fish was cooked on the grill - excellent flavor.  Bring a hat, sun tan lotion, and polarized sun glasses.  There were some mosquitoes on shore during launch, but no bugs when we got out on the water.  You can get a one day salt water fishing license online for $20.  The guide cleans the fish.  Bring a cooler and some zip lock bags. They have a nice fish cleaning station and ice at the marina.  I tried to have Red Fish Grill in New Orleans cook the fish for me, which they advertise, but you need to have a captains license to get your fish cooked there.
