The Sunshine Coast is a Mecca for game and reef fishing. Get a taste of it with Sunny Coast Fishing Charters, who offer private charters that only need a minimum of three people cost to run. These charters are about you and what you want to do. With a maximum of five fishermen in a group, you can enjoy a hands-on service with everyone on the fishing charter receiving individual attention from the crew.

You will be fishing aboard a 24 ft Noosa Cat that travels quickly to the fishing grounds. With a cruising speed of 24 knots, the boat travels twice as fast as most of the bigger boats. As the famous Barwon banks are located 24 nautical miles away, your total travel time will be halved compared to fishing with a larger boat.

During your trip you can choose between bottom fishing, micro jigging, game fishing, and/or light tackle fishing - it all depends on how you and your group want to spend your day. Top of the range fishing equipment is supplied, although you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

You could be fishing with live baits, dead baits, lures, flies, and slugs, and will primarily be using braided line - this is more sensitive and less resistant to the current run, which means you can extend your fishing time and will have a higher chance of landing bigger fish. You won’t usually find this on larger boats, as they use the cheaper and easier-to-untangle mono line that reduces the bite sensation and ultimately the number of bites you will receive.

When bottom fishing in the region your potential catches could include great-tasting species such as Snapper, Pearl Perch, Cod, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Amberjack, Kingfish, Cobia and more. Otherwise, troll for Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin, and Sailfish, or fly fish for Tuna, Sailfish, and Marlin.

As well as providing you with everything you need to catch fish, Sunny Coast Fishing Charters believe in making your fishing trip fun and they supply snacks and drinks, as well as lunch on longer trips.

I enjoy chartering and I enjoy people and this comes across in our reviews. My aim is to be the no.1 charter on the Sunshine Coast area of Queensland. I have done game, reef and barramundi fishing for years and move to the Sunshine Coast in 2013. I worked for a year as a skipper on a local charter boat to get the feel for the area. I could see the failings of the big boat company I worked for and they had no regard for customers and therefore got no repeat business. The also didn't care about catching fish or people's expectation it was always about packing as many people on the boat and taking there money. I sadly see there business gradually becoming the dinasour of the past not keeping up with people's expectations. My business focus is on firstly customer service and secondly catching fish. We don't sell u a dream. We do our best to catch fish. You fish with upto date epuipment high quality spin gear and braid not antiquated reels and nylon. More effort more fish!

I took back and forth emails to confirm days, as the captain was not available. Once I called to get in touch, I had to ring and text for him to call back. Then on the evening before again I had to msg to ask when he was going to ring and confirm. On the charter they only caught two fish to keep. It also said that the captain would clean and fillet the fish but we had to take it away and do it ourselves. Overall below average experience and would likley not recommend.

Thanks Fiona for your feedback
I’m sorry that we had problems with the contact I was away up north on a barramundi experience and was out of service for multiple days. This is the first time we have done this and it seems I should have left my phone directed to someone else in the office. So it seems we have to lift our service in the communication area.
The charter was a five hour charter and this is the minimum charter we do as it only go’s some 6nm offshore. There are some 600 recreational fishing boats and another 10 charter boats leaving the port of Mooloolaba every time the weather is good and all the inner grounds receive a lot of fishing pressure and every day is different on these in inshore grounds. In the event you would like to catch more fish I would suggest you take the 7 hour out to 12 nautical Miles or the 9 hour charter out to 15nm and beyond to catch more fish.
Queensland Fisheries don’t allow us to remove the skin of the fish prior to arriving at shore. With this in mind we don’t clean the fish unless asked too. As it is a 5 hour charter the time consumed when getting back to the ramp in cleaning fish is down time for us. On some days like the charter we did two days before you we had over 15 fish. It would take us over two hours to clean these fish when we get back and this isn’t commercially viable. Some of the larger charter boats have deckies on board and they generally gut and gill the catch on the return trip. These larger boats are slower and only do half the speed we do, so as a compromise we have more time fishing and half the time getting there. Giving you more time on the fish. Gutting and gilling is a practice where they remove the gut and the gill and this is not the general requirement for cleaning fish. Most of these Queensland type fish require filleting and this is an involved process that removes the fillet and the skin and can only be done onshore under Queensland Fisheries Law. We can do this for you on land but not on the boat but when we have a turn around trip going straight back out we find it harder to do but we can do this for you at an extra cost and drop your fillets around to you later that night.
I had a stand in skipper on your day as I had a knee injury and this option was not expressed to you the customer.
We have taken your complaints on-board and will begin to rectify straight away. I hope that you can take into account this is our first bad review and if you look at all our other reviews you will find they are five star across the board.
This is not to say we are not fallible and fishing is great but it is not always a given that you will catch lots of fish.
We try our best and when we have bad days fishing generally everybody has a bad day.
its the nature of our industry.
We wish you all the best in your future endeavours

Thanks Allan for your great Review. We always have a great day when the fishing is good . We had to endure a cool southerly change but we survived. We do our best to put you on the fish but I must say you were fortunate enough to get a good mornings fishing on a half day charter.
Its not always easy to do this as the fish don’t always cooperate but we are lucky.

Thanks Chantel
We caught lots of smaller fish. Wasn’t the greatest fishing day. We had two cracking fishing day leading up to this trip but it seems we can’t bang them everyday. We were expecting to see the whales but no show for them on the day. I had a great day with your family on the water. Sorry that exhausted everyone but we had a cracking day weather wise and it’s always great to have great people on the boat who enjoyed the conditions.
Best of luck in the future.
Rob
