Trip Summary

Today, headed out with Michelle, Ted, Jacob , Katie and Darryl. They were a bit pressed for time, having some afternoon plans, so we made the best of our day. making long runs on a 1/2 day is always risky as we dont get a whole lot of fishing time if we run far. But often times the quality fish make up for it. We made a long run to try and play with some hard pulling amberjack. This trip, the amberjack we did hook were freight trains and kept running back into the wreck and popping us off. Jacob got a hit off the bottom which quickly sounded and began swimming along the surface. Turned out to be a nice cobia which measured in at 39" to the fork. High fives and lines back out. A few bottom break offs and then the flat line goes off. Darryl is fighting what I though was a cuda, but came unglued about 15 ft from under the boat and I never got a great look at him. In hindsight, it was probably a kingfish. Quickly tossed out another live bait and it gets inhaled, and the reels spool screamed. It dumped a solid 200 plus yards in seconds, and got into the backing before we were able to turns its head. We chased it down and we're able to get it gaffed pretty quickly. Beautiful Smoker king for Ted. Two beautiful Fish made the fish box and plenty of good eats for this wonderful family.
