Member since May 2016
Laid off in May of 2016 from the oilfield, I immediately had to find a resource for my family to survive and my son was also diagnosed with cancer. I had "Revelry" (my 27' Catamaran) since 2012, and figured that I must sell her to make ends meet until i found another job. My wife told me that I should put the boat to work with my love of fishing. I had met Captain Scott at a networking mixer in the Woodlands while we both still worked in the oilfield. We talked of chartering the boat as he had his Captain's license. I never really cared a whole lot for the idea because I didn't want to lose my love of fishing. It didn't take long, after Shana told me to get to work, that Scott and I met to lay it all out. The first 5 months of 2016 we fished over 1000 customers. We have since added 4 more boats. I am a USCG licensed and Texas Licensed guide in the state of Texas. I am also a certified Weighmaster (IGFA and state record certification) and a Texas Director of Saltwater Tournaments

I chose Oilfield Outkast because of the reasonable rates and the ability to share a charter.

We had a great time! Captain Scott and Aaron were extremely friendly,  professional and informative. They made us feel welcome and were very helpful.  They are fantastic with kids!

There were five of us on the charter.  My son and I as well as three others.  We were able to see dozens of playful dolphins on our ride out.  Captain Scott put us on a great spot.  All of us caught our limit of Kingfish.  We also caught and released 3 catfish.

I was too busy to take many photos but i have a few.  The crew took pictures and videos and share them with guests via email.

The boat was extremely clean.  Has storage for personal belongings/bags. They used a variety of bait, live bait and lures.  Overall the boat and gear were in excellent condition.

I would recommend Oilfield Outkast and will definitely use them again.

Have been deep sea fishing many times and this was by far the most unorganized hap hazard trip I have had.  The captain and mate we’re disorganized, equipment was antique. Did not go after specified species, will never book oil field outcasts again and highly recommend you do not either. Total waste of time and money.

We can’t begin to express how regretful we are that you felt your experience with us was bad enough to deserve this review.  We had no indication of this during or after your trip or we would have made every effort to make your experience enjoyable.

Although you were dissatisfied, we appreciate your review. We firmly believe that dissatisfaction is formed by unmet expectations, and we’d like to take this opportunity to provide some explanation, so that potential customers will be able to have even more detailed information about us, how we operate, and the services we provide.  We absolutely hate to have unhappy customers!

It’s difficult to address your feeling of disorganization by the crew because you didn’t provide any details.  We never want customers to feel that we aren’t prepared.  We encourage you to send us an email directly and provide some constructive criticism that we may use to improve.

The boat that you fished from was a 33’ Wellcraft Coastal that we were fortunate enough to use for your trip.  That may not mean much to an angler without a lot of boat knowledge.  For those who don’t, it means that you were aboard a boat with some of the best comforts and equipment that we can offer at the price we charge.  The boat is clean, well kept, and outfitted with everything needed to keep our customers safe and comfortable during their time on the water, including ample seating, plenty of shade, a full head (bathroom) and cold air conditioning in the cuddy.  The tackle provided for your trip was Shimano Tekota and Penn International – all top tackle for the trip you booked.  None of the equipment was old, broken, or malfunctioning. We do our best to provide the best tackle for the job.

We also regret that we weren’t aware that you had a specified species of fish that you wanted to catch.  We hope that all customers are aware that they have the opportunity to provide special requests and/or comments when they book with us through FishingBooker. We also send an email to our customers after they book with FishingBooker; reaching out to them to give another chance to provide any information they feel important.  Unfortunately, you didn’t use either of those avenues to let us know that you had a special request.  We wish you had – we very much enjoy tailoring a private trip to the customer’s request, as it gives us an opportunity to do something different.  We also welcome any requests at the boat before departing from the dock.  Having a conversation before the trip begins gives us the chance to ensure that we have the proper bait and tackle to try to meet your requests.

Safety is our highest priority, above all else!  We will never place our customers or ourselves in an unsafe environment.  Fishing trips will be altered, by location or time, to ensure safety.  Mother Nature was not cooperative the day of your trip, and as much as we monitor the forecast and try to maneuver around her surprises, sometimes it’s impossible to do so.  A storm built that produced high wind, high waves, lightning, and waterspouts.  We will always err on the side of safety!  Because of this, your trip was in fact cut short.  Yes, the Gulf is a big place. Some might wonder if we couldn’t have moved away from the storm. Sometimes that’s possible. The trip that you booked was a state water trip, and considering the lawful area that we can take you to fish on a state water trip and the size of the storm, it just wasn’t possible to remain on the water safely.  Unlike many charter companies, when this happens, we almost always offer a reduced price based on the circumstances.  You were offered a reduced price, asked if you thought it was fair, and expressed appreciation for the discount.  At that point, we gathered that you were appeased satisfactorily, and are very sorry if we misunderstood.

Again, we hope that potential customers read your review, and our reply, and make an informed choice if they want to book with us.  Thanks for letting us take you fishing!
