Guided Fishing DownUnder

Urangan Marina
Hervey Bay QL, Australia

Guided Fishing DownUnder will give you more than just a day on the water - they will take you fishing for the world’s most desirable species! You will fish in the exquisite surroundings of Queensland, Australia, where the marine life is plentiful and the nature is wild.

Skipper John Haenke is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and passion with fellow anglers by taking them to the most productive fishing grounds which also happen to be located in the most scenic locations. He specialises in fly fishing: from a basic introduction to the art of fly fishing - to experienced fly anglers - everyone is welcome! He also caters to lure anglers, and offers services to those who need a bit of tuition, or none at all!

Charters operate out of the Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast region, one of Queensland’s best kept secrets. For most anglers, sight fishing in shallow clear water is as good as it gets. It’s a spectacular coastline, with some of the best flats fishing in the country, offering a good variety of species including Golden Trevally, Permit, Giant Trevally and Queenfish.

Since this area gets very little fishing pressure, it’s not unusual to get dozens of sight cast shots per day. Guided Fishing DownUnder also offers charters out of Hervey Bay, targeting a number of species including Longtail Tuna, Queenfish, Golden Trevally, Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon.

You will fish aboard a 18 foot TABS aluminum fishing boat, originally built in 2012 and powered by a 130 HP Yamaha engine. The speedy vessel will take you to the best fishing grounds quickly, and also prove convenient when moving between productive fishing spots.

About the Charter Operator

Guided Fishing Downunder
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia
Member since August 2016
From being the driving force behind the camera in the earliest on-screen days of Rod Harrison, Lefty Kreh and Malcolm Florence, John went on to shoot, edit and produce “Wildfish” with Peter Morse, "Escape with ET" and later "Fishing DownUnder - The Fishing DVD”…In short, John Haenke has forgotten more about world class sport fishing than most of us will ever know! Always passionate about sharing the adventure of angling via our screens — both large and small — John is now turning his infectious enthusiasm and boundless energy to teaching, inspiring and enthusing fellow anglers... by actually taking them fishing! Specialising in introducing keen hopefuls to fly fishing's basics, John hopes to grow this branch of the sport that he loves so much. However, he also happily caters to the needs of more advanced fly and lure fishers looking to add that extra string to their bow by exploring a new species, location or method.
