Unbelievable experience!! Martin and Victor put us on the fish!! We had such a good time!! We caught 2 really nice marlin within 3 hours of fishing!! I’m having mine mounted as we speak at Grays taxidermy. I can’t wait to go back out with them. This will be a fishing trip I take every year with these guys.

When I booked the trip, it did say I’d have to buy bait as well. That was an extra $26.00 on top of the agreed on price. They took us by the arch, which was great. Victor and Carlos worked hard to try to catch fish. They tried to make sure we were enjoying our trip. Unfortunately we didn’t get a bite. We stayed an extra hour, but still no success. I understand fishing, you can’t make the fish bite. We saw a ton of whales jumping and they moved in close for good photos and videos and we were very thankful. Unfortunately on the way back to the marina a oil line broke and sprained down the engine with oil and it ignited. Victor and Carlos got the fire out out quickly, but then we were stuck in a boat that wasn’t running. They moved us down below and it was pretty rough down there, being dead in the water. My wife then became very seasick, because we were rocking back and forth pretty hard. Finally a boat came and towed us the remaining 3 to 4 miles back in. This was one of those days that nothing went right… I’m not posting this to bitch, I’m just giving a play by play of the day. I’ve been deep sea fishing multiple times now and this was the first boat that didn’t have a fish finder on it, so I thought that was odd.

The captain and crew were excellent - UNTIL - we had a very respectable marlin on the line.  I had said repeatedly that I did not want to kill any fish.  I only wanted pictures and all fished were to be released.  Once we had the marlin on the line and we realized that it was of trophy size - 96 1/2” we measured later - the men began to pressure me to keep the fish to have mounted.  I kept saying pictures only - my wife has my voice on video saying just that.  The guys kept pushing me to keep the fish to mount.  I finally gave in when it appeared that the only way to boat the fish for pictures was to gaff it.  When we returned to the dock their boss boarded the boat, measured the fish and showed me a chart showing that it would cost $1604.00 US to mount it.  According to the chart it appeared that he and his crew would receive $880 up front to skin it and deliver it to the taxidermist who would then charge $724 to actually mount it.  Crating and shipping were extra.  You can “mount” a fish from a picture and dimensions taken.  I’ve had it done.  I believe that the crew was hoping for a big payday from the “gringo” and therefore pressured me into killing the fish.  We parted ways with the crew and boss mad at me and me feeling bad because the fish would still be alive were it up to me.  I still tipped the crew but they were still mad. ALSO - when I booked the trip on this site I booked for “nearshore fishing” for roosterfish and jack crevalle.  These guys took it upon themselves to go marlin fishing.  As it turned out I can hardly complain about a successful day of marlin fishing but somehow the wishes of the fisherman - in this case me - need to be honored.

Additional comment: My wife videoed a large portion of the “fish-on” battle.  My voice can be heard many, many times responding to Victor’s appeals to keep the fish and have it mounted saying “I only want pictures”.  My wife even asked if I was sure and I responded “yes, just pictures”.  The crew led me to believe that they would not be able to boat the fish without gaffing it.  Only when it appeared that they would not be able to boat the fish for pictures did I finally give in and told them to “gaff it”.  The upside is that we did have the fish processed, sealed and frozen at the “Old Man Vacuum Packed” place and after securing cash from Scotiabank - they would not take a credit card - we were able to bring the fish home where it is now in our freezer.  It is excellent eating!

Hi mr bullock, i just Check with my crew , this What i found , captain explain me they kill the fish under your request because you wanted to mount and it was the only way to kill a billfish in our boat dragón due we have a catch and release program , once you kill and returned to the marina you decline that requested service and they show me you took whole fish and did not finish the payment for the vaccum pack service ( see the receipt on the picture )
