Old Africa Safaris - Kubu Queen

Plot 268
Shakawe, Botswana

Old Africa Safaris is owned and operated by husband and wife team Greg & Kate Thompson. They manage the Kubu Queen Houseboat, which is based on the Okavango River in what is known as the “pan-handle” section of the Okavango Delta (a World Heritage Site). This spectacular wetland wilderness boasts a variety of freshwater angling species, most famously the Tiger Fish (Hydrocynus Vitatus) as well as many bream species, such as the Largemouth Bream from the genus Serranochromis, the Nembwe (Serrranochromis robustus), the Thinface Largemouth (Serranochromis augusticeps) and the Humpback Largemouth.

Boarding the Kubu Queen at a private base camp, you will be able to partake in an Old African Style river safari and embark on an unforgettable river adventure, exploring the unspoilt waterways, lush islands and papyrus swamps. You will be in the expert hands of a professional guide who will ensure that you experience all that the area has to offer. You can expect to see plenty of hippo and crocodiles as well as the African Elephant whilst on your fishing expedition. The area is also home to the shy and endangered Sitatunga Antelope as well as the rare Pels Fishing Owl.

Known as a ‘Fisherman’s and Nature Enthusiast’s Paradise”, the Okavango River also boasts an exciting phenomenon that occurs each year, known as the “Barbel (Catfish) Run”. This occurs from end August through to November. Come during this period to witness the river “boiling” with shoals of catfish which “run” upstream, hotly pursued by Tiger Fish. This makes for spectacular fishing. Following the runs are flocks of egrets, and the majestic African Fish Eagles, among many other few bird species.

This is a truly remarkable fishing experience in an untamed paradise.

We look forward to having you onboard!

Please note fishing season is closed for the months of January and February.
