Shallow Tails Guide Service, Inc.

9698 Southwest 328th Street
Homestead FL, United States

Shallow Tails Guide Service, Inc. is owned and operated by Captain Raul Montoro, a Miami native with over 20 years experience. Captain Montoro has experience fishing from Miami to Key West, but calls Biscayne Bay his back yard.

Although Captain Montoro’s passion is fly fishing for Bone Fish, Tarpon, and Permit, he also caters to all fisherman and skill levels whether spin fishing or fly fishing.

Fishing will be done aboard one of the best-made skiffs: a Dolphin Superskiff. At 17 feet and 9 inches in length, this Kevlar-made boat is powered by a 115 HP Yamaha motor for fast runs between fishing spots. Captain Montoro provides nothing but the best fly tackle from G Loomis, Sage, Tibor reels, Sage fly reels, Custom Spinning Rods and top of the line spinning reels.

If you’re looking for an experienced fishing guide with 100% local knowledge and who is on the water for over 230 days a year, then contact Captain Raul Montoro from Shallow Tails Guide Service, Inc.

Tips For Fly Fisherman:
If you are new to fly fishing on the flats and plan on booking a trip, I recommend you practice distance casting as much as you can. I consider South Florida Miami-Key West an intermediate - advanced fishing location. Casting into the wind is not uncommon and using the double hauling technique is a must know how.
Practice makes perfect, the better you are prepared, the better chances you have of catching fish.

Things To Bring:
Food, drinks, non-marking shoes. (No Black Sole Shoes, polarized sunglasses in copper, amber, or light amber lens. Sunscreen, hats, comfortable warm weather clothing. If fishing in the winter months, we do get cool, brisk mornings in January and February.  We are fishing in a skiff/ flats boat so dry storage is minimal. a small bag with what you need for the day will suffice.

Fish on!

About the Captain

Hi, I'm Captain Raul Montoro,a Miami native and I have been fishing in Miami since I was a kid with my dad and family. My father had his own business, but his passion was also fishing. He had us on the boat fishing since we were barley able to walk. By the time I was twelve, my father commercial fished part-time and had my brother and I working on the boat with him. From the time I was 16, I got hooked on Inshore/flats fishing and you can say the rest is history. I am 41 years young and received my captain's license when I was 20 years old. I've been a full-time guide now fishing from Miami to Islamorada, and Everglades National park for close to 14 years now. I have a lot of time on the water.
