Gold Coast Charter Service was born out of a longstanding fishing tradition. Captain Eric Walline has been fishing out of the scenic port of Frankfort since 1978. Frankfort lies on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Traverse City.
You will be fishing aboard Captain Eric’s 30’ offshore sport fishing boat, the Trophy Cup. Apart from all the necessary safety and navigation gear, it has a private head, downriggers, and plenty of room for up to six anglers. The boat was designed with charter fishing in mind, meaning it’s got good seating as well as enough room to make moving around less of a hassle when fishing.
The fishing season in Frankfort starts around mid-May and lasts up until mid-September. During this time, you will be fishing for Salmon, Lake Trout, and Steelhead, which can all be found in great numbers. Trolling is the name of the game here, and has proven time and again to be probably the best way of hooking lots of fish in the waters of Lake Michigan. You will be exclusively using artificial lures during the trip.
The price includes all the necessary rods, reels and terminal tackle you’ll need for a successful trip. A Michigan fishing license is not included, but can easily be found online. After the trip, the crew will clean and fillet anything you catch for your convenience. Bring along a pair of sunglasses as well as some drinks and snacks if you’re so inclined and the adventure can begin.
