illawarra Boat Charter is run by Captain Carl who loves fishing with guests and has owned and operated the company since 1984. He is an experienced and patient person who enjoys meeting experienced and novice fishermen from all over the world.
Wollongong is located just 81 kilometers from Sydney, and its name is believed to mean “seas of the South” in the local Aboriginal language. This seaside city lies on a narrow coastal plain between surf beaches and the cliff line of the rainforest. It is host to the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere named Nan Tien Temple.
You will fish aboard the 43 foot custom built classic boat, which was originally built in 1971 and restored in 1998. It is powered by a 210 HP Rolls Royce engine and has a capacity for 10 guests. The boat contains a GPS, a VHF radio and an excellent fishfinder which will help you locate the fish, as well as all the safety equipment in form of life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers, EPIRB, a life raft, a CPR-trained crew and a first-aid kit. You will find the boat’s toilet and shower useful, especially as you will be spending the full day on the water. It has a flybridge ideal for sight fishing, an icebox to keep the catch fresh, outriggers and downriggers, a livewell for the bait and a first mate.
illawarra Boat Charter will take you fishing in the reefs and offshore waters of Wollongong where you will be able to target a huge variety of species. Inshore and nearshore species which can be also be found at the reefs include Pink Snapper, Leatherjacket, Morwong and Flathead.
The offshore species will include the Mako Shark, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Black, Blue and Striped Marlin, and Albacore, Yellowfin and Skipjack Tunas.
