I have been fishing the Texas coast since I could walk. I suppose that it got into my blood. My father and grandfather taught me the basics but my love for fishing grew as I did. I found myself fishing every second I could and at times when I shouldn't. My love for the sport and the fish led me to pursue a degree in marine ecology. It was the closest accredited degree to fishing that existed on paper so I went for it. While in college at TAMUCC perusing my degree, I worked at one of the largest and most popular fishing lodges in Texas, Redfish Lodge. There I found my home (2003) and to this day I still work with them (2017). I was surrounded by some of the best saltwater guides in Texas. I made friends, I learned and eventually I graduated from TAMUCC with my BS degree in Marine ecology (2008). I had a decision to make, work for TP&W, pursue my masters, or fish. I chose the later and to this day I live with no regrets. I love my job! It's my passion, I live to guide and fish.

My wife and I had a blast on our fishing charter! Captain Johan was very professional and fun to be around. He was very knowledgeable and knew where to go to put us on the fish no matter what species we targeted. We definitely recommend booking captain Johan for your fishing charter!

Awesome experience! Johan had us limiting out on trout in the first 15 minutes of fishing. Spent the rest of the day fishing for redfish and ended up limiting out on those as well. We highly recommend Johan’s Fishing Guide Service!
