Deep 6 Charters - 17’ Maverick

1st Avenue
Stock Island FL, United States

Deep 6 Charters provides super exciting backcountry and saltwater fishing trips in the Florida Keys. They know where the shallow water fish are located and will take you to the exact locations, or you can try your hand at catching some of the most delicious or hard-fighting fish species around the deeper saltwater.

The Florida Keys are a collection of tropical islands that are home to a large number of fish species found on most fisherman’s bucket lists. That is why fishing here is so popular and why people from all over the world come to catch a majestic Tarpon or a tasty Mangrove Snapper.

Your guide is Captain Joshua, who has fished these waters since 2009 when he first caught a Permit in the lower Keys and has not looked back since. He has settled here and started a guiding business, leading to hundreds of happy and satisfied customers over the years. He is an ex US Navy Officer whose number one priority is safety. He is a CPR certified and holds a USCG 100 Ton captain’s license.

Deep 6 Charters will take you out on a 17-foot Maverick flats boat, powered by a 115 HP Yamaha 4 stroke engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots. This speedy boat was purposely built for the shallow waters and can easily move in waters less than a foot deep. It contains all the safety and electronics equipment you’ll need for a successful trip, as well as an icebox to store your catch.

Your targeted species will include shallow and backcountry water species such as Permit, Mangrove Snapper, Cobia, Tarpon, Mutton Snapper, Barracuda and other local species. You will have all the fishing gear provided, and that will include fly fishing equipment, bait, and a fishing license.

Once you trip with Deep 6 Charters is over, they will clean and fillet your catch so make sure you bring a cooler to transport your fish home safely.

About the Captain

Joshua Erwin
Stock Island, Florida, United States
Member since January 2017
Captain Joshua grew up on Northern Michigan's Great Lakes and pristine rivers where he fished from a very young age. This experience allowed him to learn how to fish for a variety of species and transfer the knowledge wherever he goes in the world. He served as an Officer in the US Navy and traveled the world and has settled in Florida's Lower Keys. He considers it a magical place that had him from the first time he hooked into his first ever Permit back in 2009. From that day, he knew backcountry fishing was the zenith of the fishing Mecca for him. His goal now is to share this passion with his guests and get them as excited as he is about fishing the rich waters of the Florida Keys.

Great trip!  Josh worked hard and did a great job of guiding us.  We caught a lot of fish and a good variety.  Josh was a great teacher and allowed us to fish to our abilities and for the fish we desired to catch.  He even thew a fly lesson in during the trip!  Can’t wait to fish with Josh and Deep 6 Charters again!
