The boat and equipment was in excellent condition. Once on the boat the captain, Manuel explained what was biting and the area we would be fishing. They showed us all the equipment and bait we would be using for the trip. The first mate even let us assist with setting in the first lines. We caught several mahi-mahi and one wahoo. We had many other bites and fish lost so there was plenty of action throughout the day. Jose, the first mate went above and beyond what I would have expected to make sure we were having fun and he kept the lines baited with fresh bait throughout the trip. Overall I would have to say this was probably the best charter I have ever been on. I would recommend anyone wanting to go fishing while visiting the Dominican Republic book their trip on the Barbie.

We had a great time fishing with Manuel and Jose.  Manuel put us on the fish and Jose worked the whole time making sure we had an enjoyable experience. We were a group of 4 and there was plenty of room to spread out. 2 of our group had trouble with motion sickness but that’s nothing the crew can control. We caught a large Spanish Mackerel,  a large Wahoo,  small tuna, and 2 blue fish. I was really wanting to catch a blue Marlin and was given the opportunity when one hit my line but he got off before I could get him in the boat. But it was such a fun fight. I highly recommend using Barbie and I hope to make it back sometime.

Took my three boys on a half day trip and Capt Manuel and Jose made the very best of some rough seas for us.  Although we did not make it the whole time, due to the swells my 16 year old was able to catch a Mahi Mahi which was the only fish he really wanted to go after.  We pulled up two Amberjack and one Mahi, before just being overwhelmed by the sea conditions but we knew it was going to be rough before we left and decided to stick it out and hope for the best.  Capt Manuel and Jose were very professional and awesome, they explained everything in great detail and were so helpful the entire trip.  When we return to the Dominican Republic we will be sure to book another trip on the Barbie.

We booked a half-day trip for 2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and 13. The transportation from the resort went well and the driver was punctual and polite.  The Captain and First Mate met us at the marina when we arrived. Our first impression of the boat was great. The boat was extremely well maintained and all equipment was prepared and ready to go!  We set out at ~0830.  The sea was fairly active as we headed out but the waves were not quite white capping. The First Mate deployed the bait and lures and we began fishing once out on station. Unfortunately, my son became ill but, after a spell of sea sickness, was able to relax in the stateroom.  Immediately following this, we hooked a 75” White Marlin. I jumped in the chair and brought it in after about 20-25 minutes. I was exhausted but elated.  The experience of seeing the fish jumping out of the water as I fought it was exciting for the rest of the family. Following the catch, we decide to return to the marina due to my son’s episode. Even though we cut the trip short, it was worth every second that we were on the water. The crew was understanding, very professional and assisted with my son while he was seasick (Big Thanks!!).  The trip definitely has us wanting to go Marlin fishing again this summer.  I recommend the Barbie for anyone wanting a great experience!

We checked the Punta Cana fishing websights and read the high reviews regarding the Barbie. “They put you on the fish”, “Very successful”, “Great crew”.  So my wife and I booked a private charter and from that point through boarding the Barbie, the communication between Dr. Sobrino and my wife and I was excellent. He answered all communications/questions we had promptly.  Upon arriving in Cap Canna, we went to the boat the evening before the excursion and met the Capitan, Manuel and the First Mate, Ivan and discussed our plans for the following day. It is Marlin season in June and of course we were hoping…..

Twenty minutes out I hooked my first Marlin - a Blue!  It was quite the fight and it wore me down but Ivan and my wife kept me going.  It was too large to bring into the boat as they estimated him to be between 250 - 260 lbs. - Catch and Release!  While recovering we quickly had another strike which was a Mahi Mahi that we boated (and our resort prepared for our dinner). Within a half an hour I was on my second Marlin, this one a White. We got him to the transom but unfortunately he was caught in the prop so we boated him. It was very rough on the seas but our crew stayed hard at it, checking and clearing lines! baiting hooks as required and making our lunch. In the early afternoon the Capitan shouted “White Marlin” again and the fight was on. Ivan did a great job assisting me by adjusting the chair and getting my third Marlin into the boat unharmed. A Trophy White Marlin at 80” which we photographed and released. We had chartered the boat for the full day and while heading in, had a fourth Marlin strike, a White which snapped the line.  We went into the harbor flying our flags high!

I have big game fished around the Pacific, Atlantic, and Caribbean and have never been on a boat that had so much “Mojo” or provided a day like that!  We fished light tackle (30 lbs.) which was exactly what I was looking for as I did not bring my rods/reels. They also had deep water trolling equipment in use during the outing. Again, we can’t say enough about everyone associated with the Barbie!  I hope to get back next season or try to tackle some Yellowfin or Wahoo with them.
