Awesome Fishing Charters runs super exciting inshore and backcountry fly fishing trips in Tampa Bay, Florida. Operated by Captain Keiland Smith, a full-time captain and fishing guide, and a radio show host, this charter knows where the fish are. You will experience first-hand what it’s like to prowl the shallow waters of Tampa Bay for the most desirable fish.
Captain Keiland has been fishing since the age of eight and had started guiding for Tarpon back in the 80’s. He is an expert fly fisherman who has a gift for teaching how to look for the fish, how to cast for it and how to reel it in. He is kind and generous with his knowledge, which he will share unselfishly, so pay attention to the advice he’s giving you - you are learning for the absolute expert!
You will go out on his 20 foot Hughes flats boat, powered by a 115 HP Yamaha V Max engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 45 knots. The boat is fast and secure, and will get you to the productive spots easily. It’s wireless trolling motor will allow you to move silently over the shallow waters as you don’t want to spook the fish.
The boat also features safety equipment such as life jackets, and all the electronics needed to locate the hot-spots where the fish swim in schools. There is a live well on board to store your live bait and top of the range fly fishing equipment.
Awesome Fishing Charters’ Captain Keiland will advise you how to use the fly fishing equipment, but if you prefer conventional, you are welcome to use that, too, and it is available on board. You will go in search of Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, and Trout that populate the local waters in healthy numbers.
Your catch will be cleaned and filleted for you at the end of the trip, so bring a cooler in order to transport your catch home safely. And finally, bring a camera along, for you will have plenty of opportunities to capture a great looking fish and even pose with it.
