Myrtle Beach Fishing Forecast, June 2023
May 26, 2023
June 2023 Myrtle Beach Fishing Synopsis Immerse yourself in our vivid recounting of the remarkable fishing expeditions that transpired in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during the June of 2023. Spring Comes to Life: Angling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Springtime in Myrtle Beach is a bustling period brimming with vitality, bringing with it a marked surge in aquatic activity. This season sees Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder steal the show. As winter's repose wanes, these inshore fish species awaken, creating a spectacle of awe and fascination for fishing enthusiasts. Redfish - The Maritime Gem The Redfish, known locally as the Spottail Bass, enjoys particular affection among South Carolina's anglers. Its undeniable popularity in the Grand Strand is attributed to its steadfast presence and the potential for significant hauls. Tactics and Techniques for Fishing Various methods and lures are employed in the pursuit of Redfish. Among favored techniques are live bait, artificial, and topwater strategies. The transition from spring ushers in the likelihood of substantial catches. Live bait is a preferred choice, with Mud Minnows highly coveted for their resilience and accessibility. We've been successful in capturing Menhaden in the Sunset Beach vicinity using a cast net, supplementing our bait options, alongside Mud Minnows, in the face of a live shrimp shortage. Artificial Shrimp and Gulp baits can yield profitable outcomes with a bit of skill, and as dawn breaks, topwater techniques begin to show promise. We expect this trend to extend into the upcoming June. Flounder - The Stealthy Predator of Cherry Grove Spring has seen exceptional Flounder catches in Cherry Grove and Sunset Beach, contributing to lasting memories with skilled anglers on board, such as the 11-year-old who landed a stunning 7.5-pound Flounder. The triumph was not just in the size of the catch but in the employed methodology. Flounder Catching Techniques Departing from the typical Cherry Grove Flounder fishing method of slow-trolling Mud Minnows at the bottom, our clients have been successful with Flounder using similar techniques to those used for Redfish and Speckled Trout. Flounder's reaction to bait is largely contingent upon the presentation, often responding more eagerly to suspended bait than to trolled offerings. Speckled Trout - The Coastal Chameleon We have recorded impressive Speckled Trout hauls around oyster bars and rips, stretching from Little River to Calabash. Fishing Strategies for Speckled Trout With water temperatures touching the lower 70s, the Speckled Trout population sees a significant increase before the summer heat reaches its peak. Conservation is a key aspect of our fishing charters. Therefore, while we permit the keeping of some trout for meals, we actively support the 'Release over 20' initiative which promotes releasing all fish over 20 inches to ensure a thriving future fish population. The majority of Trout bites have been on Mud Minnows and artificial baits due to a shortage of live shrimp. Casting Menhaden can prove challenging in windy conditions but has nonetheless contributed to successful catches. Spanish Mackerel - The Flamboyant Coastal Performers During your North Myrtle Beach getaway, the Spanish Mackerel, visible offshore through bird clusters and water frothing, may catch your eye. These fish provide some of the most invigorating encounters on the water. Seizing the Excitement While some anglers target Spanish Mackerel by trolling small spoons behind planers, we prefer to enhance the thrill for our charter clients. Rather than sticking to conventional methods, we seize the opportunity to cast when they are surface-active, which may even pave the way for fly fishing opportunities. The Anticipated Appearance of King Mackerel As we edge towards June, we look forward to enticing nearshore chances for King Mackerel fishing. With water temperatures teetering around 70 degrees, King Mackerel find the beachside waters increasingly attractive. Early reports of King Mackerel catches off Myrtle Beach piers are already making the rounds, fueling our excitement. The Impending Tarpon Season Though still a bit distant, the anticipation for the upcoming tarpon season is palpable. The challenge of going after Tarpon, a personal favorite among our species, offers a distinctive fishing experience. If you're up for this adventure, we recommend securing a spot between late June and September. Reserve Your North Myrtle Beach Fishing Charter Today! We extend an invitation to you to join us on an exciting journey and experience the thrills and joys of fishing in North Myrtle Beach. Our deep understanding of these waters, honed over 40 years of exploration, promises you a unique fishing experience.
