Viking II is a 46ft custom sportfisher built by Frank Woodnutt, an internationally-esteemed builder, and is powered by a Cummins 600HP engine, with a maximum capacity of 6 fishermen per trip. The boat sports an extra spacious cockpit, primarily aimed at handling the massive Black Marlin that Cairns has become known for, whereas Viking’s salon, bar and galley are located one level above and open to the cockpit, enabling direct and immediate contact with the fishing action. To ensure angler comfort, the boat features two cabins which can accommodate up to 4 anglers, as well as a large AC system in the saloon. For live-aboard journeys, Viking is equipped with both power and water generating facilities.

As for fishing, the boat is decked with a variety of heavy tackle from several noteworthy brands, including 4 sets of custom-furnished Ian Miller 60kg (132lbs) rods mounted onto 130 Penn International two-speed reels. Proving their money’s worth, the largest Blue Marlin landed and weighed off this port on 60kg (836lbs) was hooked aboard Viking II, with Billy as the Captain. Conversely, the crew also utilizes a wide range of medium, light, ultra-light as well as fly fishing gear for your consideration.

Captain Billy Billson has over 30 years of both local and international sportfishing expertise, and holds a variety of records, tournaments and notable fishing recognitions under his belt. He has claimed the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic 5 times, and runnered up as many, and has won the ‘Largest fish award’ in the tournament several times. Billy has also claimed the NSW Inteclub - the largest fishing competition in the southern Hemisphere a total of 4 times.

The Viking II is used to moving along Australia’s East Coast following the Marlin season. Feel free to inquire about customizable packages as well as the boat’s common departure points relative to the Marlin migration.

Every year for the past ten years I have fished with Capt Billy Billson on the magnificent Viking II. Every trip we have had great success, with fun filled exciting fishing.

Having chartered boats, and fished in many parts of the world, Cairns, Gold Coast, and Port Stephen’s stand out for me as the best places to fish, you maximise your chance of catching truly great fish, it is imperative that you fish with a dedicated and experienced fishing Captain. Capt Bill Billson tops the chart, and fishing with him gives you the best chance of catching that dream fish. I have certainly caught my fair share of great fish all credit to Bill and his team.

After a great days fishing its happy hour, great food and company behind the reef, as the sun goes down. It does not get any better than a fishing trip with Bill and his crew on Viking II. That’s why I keep coming back.”
