Windsplitter Charters invites you for a flats and backcountry fishing adventure in the beautiful natural setting of Homosassa, Florida. The charter is operated by Captain Duane Baker who has fished the waters of Citrus County for over 20 years and loves every minute he spends on the water. This Florida native grew up fishing the Tampa Bay area and become quite an expert on the local fisheries.
Captain Duane will take you fishing in his Gheenoe micro skiff originally built in 2016. It is powered by a 25 HP Mercury engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 32 knots. This vessel is small but mighty and will get you to your fishing destination in a flash. It features life jackets and a CPR-trained crew for safety, a GPS and a fishfinder for locating the fish, and an icebox for your catch.
Windsplitter Charters offers half day and full day adventures targeting Redfish, Speckled Trout, Snook, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, Mangrove Snapper, Tripletail, and Blacktip Shark. The species are available year-round in different areas and water depths, which you will be advised about.
Captain Duane will include the fishing license, gear, tackle, and bait on your trip, so you don’t have to bring anything other than a hat and something to eat and drink for the day. You can also have your catch cleaned and filleted at the end of the trip, so bring a cooler to take the fish home.
Captain Duane says: “Come have some fun in the sun!”.

When setting up a trip with Duane, you will have a number of options, depending on conditions and what’s in-season on the day of the trip. My favorite is to have Duane take me deep into the backcountry ... deep into the many creeks, mangrove islands and bays that border the nature coast. On a typical backcountry trip you’ll likely only see one or two other boats in the areas you’re fishing. It’s not unusual for me to take a moment to look in a 360-degree circle and not see another boat or sign of civilization. Duane knows this territory like the back of his hand and is very skilled at putting you in position to catch redfish and snook, as well as showing some of the other wildlife and points of interest. If you want a more relaxed style of fishing for trout, he’s got some excellent spots for those as well, all depending on tides, time of day, and what you’re interested in catching.
