Brasilia- Brasilia Fishing Charters

Horta Marina
Horta AC, Portugal

In Horta Azores, land for granders, you ‘ll have the chance of fishing with Captain Les Gallagher and his crew. Les has 25 years of experience in the waters around Horta and in Cape Verde, Ghana, Ascension. The renamed banks of Horta like Condor bank, Azores bank and Pricess Alice bank are the best places for giant Blue Marlin.

40’ Blackwatch built in 2005 and custom rigged especially for the giant blue marlin of the Azores. A spacious cockpit, Scoponich chair and one-piece riggers by Rupp along with ample power from twin 450 hp Cummins ‘Diamond Series’. The Blackwatch hull provides a superb ride, excellent manouvreability, comfort and stability, both for running and for working fish.

Blue marlin are our primary target species. Although the average weight of this species is around 500 lb., we frequently encounter much larger specimens of the 800 - 1,200 lb. class. The most blue marlin ever caught by one boat per season was 112 in 1996. Generally, boats that fish a full season may expect to average around 40 - 50 blue marlin captures. In 1997, the largest blue marlin ever landed in the Azores weighed in at 1,307 lb. The fish was caught from the Xacara with Capt. Les Gallagher and Zak Conde. Many similar sized fish and larger have been lost over the years. In all, Horta has hosted 6 blue marlin world records, 4 of which still stand.

Marlin fishing season in the Azores is during the months of July, August and September.
Tuna fishing season in the Azores is during the months of May and June.

Come fish with us! You won’t regret it.

They gave us a lousy boat. A 31 foot bertrum, which needed some repairs. We did not catch any fish,
but that was not the captains fault. A hurricane had passed the island earlier in the week, fishing wasoff for everyone. I do not think I will charter with again. But I will be back to the Azores next year.
