Gibraltar Tuna Fishing is based at the entrance to the famous Straits of Gibraltar in the fantastic Marina Bay. This location enables their clients to enjoy some of the world’s best Bluefin Tuna fishing grounds without spending hours getting to them. The channel between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic is a world famous site which consistently provides first-rate big game fishing opportunities as the Tuna chase bait fish up to Gibraltar.
You will be fishing aboard the “Ocean Dancer”, a 29 ft Topaz sportfishing boat with room for up to 4 guests. Originally built back in 1987, she was fully restored in 2012, and is powered by twin 230HP Styre engines up to a cruising speed of 18 knots. The vessel is perfectly set up for bringing monster Tuna, with GPS, fishfinder, outriggers, downriggers, a livewell and tuna tubes for you to work your way up the food chain, and a fighting chair to help you haul in those huge 400lb+ beasts once they’re hooked.
Most people expect deep sea Tuna fishing to happen far offshore, but with Gibraltar Tuna Fishing this couldn’t be further from the truth. Because of the area’s very deep waters, hook-ups are quite common all along the coastline, often less than 3 miles out! This means that you can get the maximum amount of fishing time on your trip, and don’t have to spend half the trip travelling before you even get a line in the water.
If the Tuna is out of season, or just not your style, Captain Tom O’brien also offers great bottom fishing charters targeting a wide range of tasty table fish. No matter what you are targeting, Captain Tom and his skilled first mate will be on hand at all times to make sure you are set up right, and to offer advice on the most effective ways of landing the huge fish lurking in the deep.
Trips come with all tackle, bait, and licences, and while large Bluefin are kept by the boat, they will be more than happy to have some big steaks cut off for you to enjoy at one of the local restaurants.
