I was born and raised in Florida. I learned to fish as a boy in the Tampa bay area. I moved to Brooksville in 1985, and tried my hand at fresh water. for about 10 years I fished both fresh, and salt water. I moved to the Chassahowitzka river in 2006 and have spent the last 11 years learning the flats and back country. I've had several jobs along the way, but none ever made me as happy as putting people on fish. I love when people get excited on my boat.

The trip began in a beautiful and peaceful area of the river. The boat was clean, the captain was friendly and there was ample shade on the boat. As we took off at wake speed down the river we passed several kayaks and other boaters enjoying the beautiful scenery. Everyone was friendly and waved as we passed. Right before the wake speed ended we stopped to feed the birds. I’ve never had birds take bread right out of my hand before. That was an awesome little addition to the experience.

Once we reached the scallop grounds we geared up and jumped in. The water was the perfect temperature. Captain Duane has some great spots marked for scalloping. It was not crowded at all in the area with other boats and we were able to easily find scallops. As we retrieved scallops and drifted from the boat, Captain Duane would move the boat towards us so we could easily get in and out to take breaks or unload scallops. He was very attentive to our needs as customers. We ended up with the max amount of scallops allowed per person! On the way back to the river we were followed by three playful dolphins which was amazing to see and of coarse I said yes to feeding the birds on the way back. Overall I had a great experience on the Windsplitter and I look forward to another trip in the future. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Capt Duane took us to all the “hot spots” for our fishing adventure. We caught 2 beautiful redfish and several sea trout on our day out. We had a “Canadian” fisherman that enjoyed his first flats fishing trip. We will definitely do this trip again.
