When the big drum bite.

Trip Summary

Following the Gulf storm last Saturday, there is now more floating grass, but the water is still green enough to use artificials. Sharks were bad at my redfish spots, and we didn't get any spot tails, though the lady in the photo really wanted one. We made more trout drifts and caught this beast a half mile from shore, no idea what he was doing out there, but the fight was long. This couple fishes bass tournaments west of Atlanta, and they know how to fight fish. This drum ate a 3-inch Gulp plastic bait, and it took a while to work this fish into the boat. I knew better than to use the landing net, he would have broke it. Instead I grabbed the tail, they lifted on the head, and the ponderous fish came aboard. The sides of my boat are low, so it wasn't too difficult. When we released that drum, it made a big splash.
