Poacher Sportfishing specializes in inshore fishing trips around the waters of Outer Banks. Whether you are a seasoned angler, or a novice fisherman, there is room for you aboard Captain Devin’s boat. Capt Devin guided a crew to the STATE RECORD striped bass in 2011 tipping the scales at 64lbs and still holds the record today.

Captain Devin has been fishing his whole lifeand has been a licensed Capt for38 years .and has been running charters out of Oregon inlet on his boat Poacher for the past31 years, a well seasoned veteran of the area.Having fished professionally in Africa,Mexico,,Costa Rica,,Bahamas,Virgin Islands Panama and South FL. But grew up fishing as a deckhand here at Oregon Inlet in Nags Headand knows how to put you on fish. He and his first mate will welcome you aboard 42’ Bruno boat made for ocean sport fishing. Up to six anglers can come along, and in summer months, it’s ideal for kids.

Captain Devin runs shorter trips that kids enjoy, as it gives them a chance to see how fishing works, how fish bite, and how drag screams. The boat is equipped with a flybridge, cabin, bathroom tuna tower sunshade 4 chairs and all required safety equipment, a live bait well, and an ice box.

We fish in the ocean along the beaches and sounds and up to 20 miles out depending on half days or allday trips. You could encounter cobia,spanish mackerel false albacores bluefish red drum sharks sea bass triggerfish and more.

While fishing you may troll, drift, cast, bottom fish,we are equipped for whatever it takes. The boat is loaded with a full range of fishing equipment Families will have a great time catching a variety of species, and can store their catch in the ice box, and later have a tasty family The first mate will help out so that you have an enjoyable day on the water. Bring sunscreen, a camera, take some snacks and drinks, alcohol iis not a problem to bring along.

Fantastic trip!

Captain Cage and first mate Spencer were fantastic. Conditions were challenging the week our trip was booked. Capt. Cage worked with us to make sure we could still get out and have a good time. We hit the sound and had fish on almost immediately. We had a great haul of blues and Spanish mackerel. Spencer was like a fish ninja - quickly swapping rods, helping us land fish, and getting the lines right back in the water. The boat was immaculate and packed to the gills with every bit of equipment we could need. I really can’t praise these guys enough. Can’t wait to get back out with them next year!

Awesome day of fishing

6 hour morning trip on June 26, 2025 • 4 adults • 2 children

Captain Devon and first mate Spencer were outstanding. They put us on fish from the beginning and Captain Devon was quick to change from trolling close for Bluefish to going out to a wreck site where we caught lots of large bluefish(more than i could bring home to Ohio). We then transitioned to bottom fishing where we caught Trigger fish and other species that we put in the cooler. We then came in and caught@ 12 Atlantic Sparp-nosed shark that are great eating fish. In total we had over 132lbs of fish to take home. We just had a huge of fried fish for the family and I have 6 huge bags of shark and bluefish to take home. I would truly recommend them. Very personable and we're great to us, especially are 12 and 13 year old boys. It was well worth the money to watch all 4 of my boys to have a great time fishing. We did a 6 hour charter and I wish we would have done the full day. You can't go wrong with these guys and that was echoed by the other captains I talked to at the dock before we left in the morning. The boat was great (extremely clean), the people were awesome, and the fishing experience was first rate. It's was an awesome day on the ocean!. Thank you Captain Devon and Spencer! I will book them the next time we are here.

Our family had the absolute best time. Capt. Devin kept us where the fish were biting. We were reeling them in one after another and at the same time. I took my daughter and son in-law, 2 grandkids 11 year old girl and 17 year old boy. Needless to say there was no cellphone watching. They were smiling ear to ear. Spencer the first mate is worth his weight in gold. He kept everything moving smoothly. I was impressed by his ability to get the fish in the boat so quickly with multiple catches going on at the same time. I really can’t say enough about what I fantastic day we had. I would go again and again.

The Poacher Capt. and crew are fantastic. They put us on the bluefish, Spanish mackerel and spotted albacore. When things slowed up , they switched to bottom fishing and we caught sea bass and trigger fish two at a time. Capt. Devin and the mate Spencer were courteous and patient and all around great people. You can’t go wrong with booking your OBX fishing trip with them.

Unforgettable Day on the Water with Poacher Sportfishing!

We had an amazing experience with Poacher Sportfishing Charter in the Outer Banks! We went about 8 miles out and spent 4 hours on the water—it was the perfect amount of time. Captain Devin was professional and clearly knowledgeable, making us feel safe and well taken care of the entire trip. His mate Spencer was incredibly attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Both made the experience fun, smooth, and memorable. Highly recommend this charter if you're looking for a great day of fishing in OBX!
