My friend and I booked a half day fishing expedition with Captain Keith.  This was our first time fishing and we approached the experience with a bit of trepedition, No need!!!!  We greeted Captain Keith at 6:30 a.m. and learned that this was a private charter - just myself and my friend - guaranteeing lots of personal attention and instruction.  We also learned that since we were fishing for salmon, we did not need to go too far out - just about five our 10 minutes - and thus the water was calm.  Captain Keith was calm and patient - the exact opposite of myself once the first fish bit! What an adrenaline rush!  Throughout the morning, Captian Keith observed us and gave us guidance on how to improve our fishing skills, and said “the fish have got to win sometimes” more than once, when we lost one.  He did not make us feel bad at all about our novice fishing status - and was extremely patient with us. We asked him tons of questions - not just about fishing but about life in Alaska and his personal journey.  Captian Keith has led a fascinating life! We ended up catching our maximum amount of fish - 6 silver salmon each - and continued fishing and caught another 5 for the captain. 17 fish in all that we caught and reeled in!!  Captain Keith arranged for our fish to be cleaned and showed us to the shipping facility We ended uo with 44 pounds of fish - enough to last us a year!!!  This was the #1 highlight of our Alaskan Adventure - and that’s saying a lot given how incredible Alaska is all around.  We will definitely be booking again with Captain Keith if we are ever lucky enough to be in Seward again. Thank you for a GREAT EXPERIENCE and wonderful memories.

I’ve done a few trips out of a few places including Homer and Seward in the past. Some have been okay, some were regrettable, but 10/10 would definitely come back for a trip with Captain Keith. Cozy boat, hot coffee was a nice bonus, did some sight seeing on the way out, got down to business once anchored at the spot and hauled in some great halibut. Keith has all the right gear; he was generous with bait and clearly knew how best to get “the big one” in the boat. His harpoon skills were very welcome as that last few feet are always the most nerve racking!

All-in-all a fantastic trip! Weather forecasts can be very unreliable, so just plan to go for it and don’t base decisions to cancel on a forecast days or even weeks before. Even if it rains, it might not last long, and rain shouldn’t stop you from fishing anyway! The only thing that could have ruined the day was unsafe seas, which happens, and is always the captain’s call in the end. There was a small craft advisory the day before our trip, but we got lucky and it mostly cleared up for our day.

I’d recommend meeting at the docks with an open mind and trust Keith’s recommendation on where to fish, what for, and how. We had originally intended to target silvers, but it was getting late in the season, so Keith set out for halibut and we’re all very happy he did!

Captain Keith was knowledgeable, friendly and patient with all of us. He cruised us around to all the best spots, gave us pointers on getting our catch, and even extended our stay until we had caught our limit. Caught lots of silver back and pink salmon and even rockfish. Keith cleaned and filleted all our catch and we had plenty to give away, send home, and cook up for several days. It was a great excursion!

Capitan Keith has 35+ years experience,  and it shows.
There were six of us, and he did a good job of teaching us the ropes.  He put us on salmon first thing and we caught a few. We then moved out to get halibut.  The wind picked up when a front came in, and the ocean got rough.  We were in the halibut spot for a very short time and the anchor would not hold. We were only there for about 15 minutes and had a couple good bites.  Capitan Keith was busy trying to keep the boat anchored and we did not land a halibut.  Capitan Keith decided that we should head for calmer waters,  so we reeled up and left. Once we got to calmer water, he told us that we probably wouldn’t be able to catch more then 1 or 2 in that spot if any at all. He offered to take us in and only charge us for a half day of fishing. We all agreed that that would be best. It was very generous of him to make that offer. We would use Capitan Keith again in the future.

We had a great trip. Keith did all he could to try and
find us some fish. We left with three. And one was a decent size!! But the fish just were not biting. Keith was a nice person, and did a great job. The water was pretty rocky on the way back. Scared us a bit. But Keith was a good Captain and we made it back safe! Would definitely book again in the future.
If you have a trip planned with him and his cell, and work phone aren’t working i believe it was saying “not registered” it is because he is out of service on the water, and his business phone goes straight to his cell. We were worried there was no trip, but spoke to the front desk in Seward. And he contacted us as soon as he got back!
