I want to first say I have been on Charter fishing trips over night out of California down Mexico coast and Off Shore Gulf of Mexico Texas and Channel Fishing in Texas all charters.  Yet this time was different we headed out of the Marina in Panama City Panama boat operating good. We went to a place to catch bait fish. No problem there, it took us about 45 minutes. Then we attempted to head toward Toboga Island . But we immediately lost an engine It sounded like a bad or corroded battery terminal. So we proceeded to limp a very slow rate to our first place to fish which was in about 40’ of water and quite a ways from Toboga Island yet. By 12 Noon we had managed to get as far as the Canal Entrance in the ocean but just outside of the mouth of the Canal.  We fished for and hour and a half there in the actual shipping lane at about 58’ We could see the Island but was still a ways away.  To this point we catch nothing. Not that anyone can guarantee a fish but had we lost a motor from the start and had put us on fish we’d be happy campers.  The Captain would spend 15 minutes 20 minutes with his fish finder circling a spot deciding to drop anchor.  He didn’t impress me. My 14 yr old Nephew had never fished and the Charter Captain never helped him or spoke to him about the fishing rod.  I was an observer at times.  Finally I suggested we fish closer to the one the Ft Amador Islands he said its about 20’ there, I said lets do it. Its now 2pm and we set out trolling lures within 5 minutes I had a 30 Spanish Mackerel on the line.  I put 3 trolling lines out myself.  I then sent had another on but my fault I lost him. Did I mention by this time the Fish finder was not working and the Captain seemed unknowledgeable about the working of the equipment.  Did I mention the Captain wasn’t the boat owner. Finally about 3:00 I said let go home. And as we headed in and was still trolling I caught a Barracuda.  Back at Marina 4Pm.  Boat Owner reimbursed me $200.00 for trip but said Captain said it wasn’t that bad. But actually Captain told me he would of took us to other places around or near the Toboga Island which we couldn’t get to because of the Motor. I told the owner his Captain wasn’t that good. He of course defended him. I consider myself experienced fisherman not world class but I can catch fish.  The rest of my family was not. If your entire group knows what to do its fine but if you have beginners on board. Your on your own.

I will say over all the boat is a nice boat to fish off of,  Just had issues this day.
