Captain Dave Fleming has 30 years of guiding experience and has called the island his home for the past 40 years. Thousands of anglers have enjoyed his southern charm and fishing prowess. During this period, he has seen many kids develop into fine adults and exceptional anglers. The cycle continues for many of them who are now parents themselves and are introducing their young children to the experiences they had as kids fishing aboard the Mighty Mako. Very cool indeed. And while Captain Dave is serious about each and every trip, he tries to never take himself too seriously. A professional with a friendly, laid-back style, Captain Dave ensures your comfort, safety, and of course, great fishing when you come aboard the Mighty Mako! Captain Dave holds no state or world records, nor does he have any sponsors or endorsements from any boat manufacturers or fishing companies. However, his resume does include thousands of satisfied and appreciative vacationing anglers.

    Great trip and great captain!

    3 of us went out and we each caught a shark! I caught a 150lb bull shark and it was a great fight! thanks again Capt David! we went out at 0730 and caught some bait fish with the cast net, Capt David through it out twice and caught plenty of bait for the whole trip. We got to see plenty of wildlife, dolphins, birds. My father enjoyed watching the shrimp boats. I would highly reccomend going out with Captain David, we will be joining him again next year! The boat is very nice and clean Captain Dave did great with helping us with everything. He made it really easy and enjoyable.

    An Unforgettable Day on the water with Captain David!

    We had an amazing time with Mr.David. From the moment we stepped on the boat ,he made us feel like we had known him forever. He was welcoming easy to talk to, and made the entire experience wonderful. He took time with our 5 year old son and answered all the questions he had. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does and cares about making sure everyone has a great time. We will definitely be booking with Mr.David again!

    Dave was awesome! we caught some sharks, and had a great experience on the water despite hitting some slow spots. me and the kids learned some things along the way as well! Dave was very knowledgeable and was good with teaching the kids! would recommend!

    My family and I had a great time! We had some fun conversations with the captain and time just flew by! We also saw a large amount f dolphins in the area, which was also incredible

    We had a great time. Fish were caught, and fun was had. My son caught the biggest fish of his life. Capt Dave did great with my 10yr old son, and kept him entertained.

Reds Brought Boat Despite Sharks

In between the thunderstorms and windy conditions, as well as the never-ending Shark population, we're managing to get a few Reds to the boat.

Sharks, Reds, and Mixed Catches

Sep 12, 2026 • Hilton Head Island
After taking the past month or so off, we got out a couple of days and caught a couple of Sharks, a couple of Reds, and a handful of miscellaneous species. The next month or so should be about the same, with the Bull Red bite increasing while the Shark bite subsides. Come November, the creeks will be lighting up with Trout and slot-Reds. Time will tell.

Sharks are in the house

Jun 13, 2026 • Hilton Head Island
A wide variety of Sharks (species and sizes) ranging from 3ft scalloped Hammerheads to 7ft, 200lb Bulls. It all depends on what you're into. Have seen a few Tarpon, but no hookups thus far. The weather looks to be an issue starting mid week, and the moonphase as it pertains to the tides are not gonna be in anyone's favor. Best to fish the morning flood tide, and relax by the pool during the afternoon. Just my opinion.

High wind and huge tide blues.

Extremely tough week in the backwaters and inshore creeks. Very few Trout and BlackDrum, and only several "rat" Reds to our credit. Small craft advisery wind conditions and some of the most elevated tides of the year were two huge obstacles in our way of success. As tides and winds come back to normal next week, hopefully, the October fishing scene will rebound. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
