This charter demonstrated that variety. The marlin provided the billfish encounter of the day. Once the fish was brought alongside the boat, it was released. The dorado added another dimension to the charter. Dorado are recognized for their speed, powerful runs, sudden changes of direction and bright coloration. Fishing Statistic Result Charter Statistic Result Marlin 1 Anglers 4 Marlin Released 1 Boat 32' Luhrs Dorado 1 Departure 7:30 AM Species Caught 2 Return 1:30 PM Billfish Release 100% Operating Window 6 Hours Cabo Offshore Fishing Can Change Quickly Offshore conditions are constantly evolving. Bait concentrations move, currents change and pelagic fish can appear in an area without remaining there for long. That makes a captain and crew's ability to observe the water and react an important part of the fishing day. For Kevin's group, the November 30 trip produced both a marlin encounter and a dorado catch aboard Blue Star. The two fish also provided very different experiences. Marlin bring the power and spectacle associated with billfishing, while dorado are fast, aggressive and famous for their aerial fights. Four anglers finished the charter with two different Cabo gamefish species on the day's catch record. Ready to fish Cabo San Lucas? Their five-hour private fishing charter produced four landed gamefish, including two striped marlin, one sailfish and one dorado, all caught near the famous Cabo San Lucas Lighthouse. Captain Chewy and his crew concentrated on the productive Pacific waters immediately offshore, using live ballyhoo and tournament-style dredge equipment to attract gamefish. October 13, 2026 – Cabo Fishing Charter Hooks First Marlin Departing IGY Marina at 6:00 AM, Christine's group headed toward the Lighthouse fishing grounds. The first successful hookup came at 8:15 AM when a striped marlin struck live ballyhoo close to the Lighthouse. The crew successfully landed the fish, providing an exciting start to the morning. Rather than traveling farther offshore, Captain Chewy continued working the nearby waters where fish were actively feeding. Cabo Fishing Charter Lands Sailfish and Dorado At 9:35 AM, a sailfish attacked live ballyhoo approximately two miles in front of the Lighthouse. The crew successfully landed the sailfish, adding a second billfish species to the day's catch. Only 25 minutes later, at 10:00 AM, a dorado struck ballyhoo approximately half a mile offshore. Three different species had now been landed during the same five-hour charter, demonstrating the variety of gamefish available in Cabo San Lucas. Cabo Fishing Charter Releases Second Striped Marlin The final successful strike arrived at 10:40 AM, just 20 minutes before the scheduled return. A second striped marlin took live ballyhoo directly in front of the Lighthouse. Following the fight, the marlin was successfully landed and released in good condition. The two striped marlin were released, consistent with Blue Sky Cabo's responsible billfish fishing practices. Jared and Dominic, the group from Albuquerque, New Mexico, departed F Dock at IGY Marina at 6:00 AM for a private offshore fishing adventure. The two anglers targeted billfish along Cabo's Pacific coastline, concentrating their fishing activity between Los Arcos and Pozo de Cota. Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa Cabo San Lucas is the featured local hotel reference for this report. The guests' actual accommodation was not confirmed. Cabo Fishing Charter – Marlin and Sailfish Action The charter produced one marlin and one sailfish, both successfully caught and released. The sailfish responded to trolled ballyhoo, while marlin activity involved artificial lures and mackerel bait. The original fishing notes also referenced striped marlin and white marlin encounters. The confirmed catch total, however, was one marlin and one sailfish. Another marlin struck during the outing but did not become securely hooked. The crew used several offshore trolling techniques while working the fishing grounds between Los Arcos and Pozo de Cota. Cabo Fishing Report – 80-Pound Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado August 29, 2026 1 Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Dorado During a Six-Hour Cabo Fishing Charter A family from White Plains, New York enjoyed a productive late-August fishing trip aboard the 32-foot Luhrs Blue Star with Captain Chewy. Edit, Julio, Isabella and Kennedy spent six hours fishing the warm waters around Cabo San Lucas and finished the charter with two quality pelagic fish. The standout catch was an approximately 80-pound yellowfin tuna. A 20-pound dorado added a second species and brought the estimated combined weight of the two fish to approximately 100 pounds. Cabo Fishing Charter Statistics Charter Detail Recorded Information Charter Detail Recorded Information Catch 1 Tuna, 1 Dorado Total Game Fish 2 Boat Blue Star – 32' Luhrs Captain Chewy Guests 4 Anglers Home City White Plains, NY Charter Length 6 Hours Tuna Weight Approx. 80 lbs Water Temperature Approx. 88°F Dorado Weight Approx. 20 lbs Wind Approx. 9–12 mph Combined Weight Approx. 100 lbs Air Temperature Approx. 84°F → Upper 80s Weather Clouds and Sunshine An 80-Pound Yellowfin Tuna Becomes the Main Event The yellowfin tuna was the defining fish of this Cabo charter. At approximately 80 pounds, this was a substantial tuna requiring much more than a quick fight. Yellowfin are powerful swimmers built for sustained speed and endurance. Larger fish can make hard initial runs before settling into the deeper stages of the battle. Captain Chewy and the crew helped the anglers maintain pressure while keeping the boat positioned during the fight. Successfully bringing the tuna aboard turned one offshore opportunity into the biggest catch of the family's morning. August 29 Catch Results Species Approx. Weight Result Yellowfin Tuna 80 lbs Caught Dorado 20 lbs Caught Combined Catch 100 lbs 2 Game Fish The numbers show why the tuna became the centerpiece of the trip, but the dorado provided valuable species variety during a relatively compact six-hour fishing window. Dorado Adds Color and Speed to the Cabo Fishing Day The approximately 20-pound dorado created a very different offshore experience. Dorado are known for rapid acceleration, aggressive strikes and brilliant coloration. Once hooked, they can produce quick runs and aerial action that contrast sharply with the sustained strength of a large yellowfin tuna. Catching both species allowed the family to experience two distinct styles of Cabo fishing during the same morning. Warm August Conditions Around Cabo Water temperature was approximately 88°F, with air temperature beginning around 84°F and climbing into the upper 80s. Winds were approximately 9–12 mph under a mixture of clouds and sunshine. Captain Chewy could continually watch the surrounding water for signs that might reveal productive areas, including: Concentrations of baitfish Working birds Current seams Surface disturbances Floating structure or debris These observations are particularly valuable during a six-hour charter because making productive use of the available fishing time matters. Cabo Fishing Conditions Grid Ocean Detail Recorded Condition Weather Detail Recorded Condition Water Approx. 88°F Starting Air Approx. 84°F Sea Conditions Moderate Surface Later Air Upper 80s Wind Approx. 9–12 mph Sky Clouds / Sunshine Charter 6 Hours Game Fish 2 Tuna and Dorado Deliver a Memorable Cabo Fishing Trip For Edit, Julio, Isabella and Kennedy, the August 29 charter ultimately came down to two significant offshore opportunities that produced two quality fish. The 80-pound yellowfin delivered the strength and endurance associated with larger tuna, while the 20-pound dorado brought speed, color and a completely different fight. Approximately 100 pounds of combined fish during a six-hour charter made this a productive family outing aboard Blue Star and another example of the species variety available during late-summer fishing in Cabo San Lucas.
