July 20, 2023 – Cabo Fishing Report – 2 Dorado, 2 Bonito Released – 60' Bertram Blue Sea – Captain Alex – 10 Hours – 4 Fish
Zach and his group boarded the 60' Bertram Blue Sea on July 20 for one of the longest fishing options available from Cabo San Lucas: a full 10-hour offshore charter. With Captain Alex at the helm, 11 guests, including one child, departed at 6:15 AM with almost the entire fishing day ahead of them.
The final catch was two dorado and two bonito, with both bonito released.
This charter was built around more than simply extending a normal morning by an hour or two. Ten hours gave Captain Alex considerably more freedom to search, adjust the fishing plan and remain offshore through the afternoon. Blue Sea was also equipped with the dredge for the trip, while breakfast, lunch, an additional appetizer and open bar service supported the group throughout the long day.

Ten Hours Give This Cabo Charter More Freedom for Fishing
A 10-hour charter changes the decisions available to the captain.
On a shorter trip, travel time matters enormously. The captain always has to consider how far the boat can run while still leaving enough time to fish and return to Cabo San Lucas Marina on schedule.
Zach's group gave Captain Alex a much larger window.
Blue Sea left at 6:15 AM and was not scheduled to return until approximately 4:15 PM. That meant the crew could continue working through the morning, midday and afternoon rather than treating noon as the end of the fishing day.
More time never guarantees more fish. What it provides is opportunity and flexibility.
When conditions change, bait moves or fish activity develops later than expected, those additional hours can become valuable.
The Dredge Adds Another Cabo Fishing Tool Behind the Yacht
Blue Sea carried the dredge as part of the fishing program for this charter.
A dredge is designed to create the appearance of a concentrated school of baitfish moving beneath and behind the boat. It adds a much larger visual attraction to the trolling presentation and can help draw offshore gamefish toward the spread.
This is different from simply putting additional individual lines in the water.
The objective is to make the entire presentation behind the boat appear more alive and attractive to predators.
For a 10-hour charter, Captain Alex and the crew had plenty of time to incorporate the dredge while continuing to evaluate conditions and search for opportunities.
Dorado Bring Classic Summer Action to This Cabo Yacht Charter
Two dorado were recorded during the trip.
Dorado are one of the species most closely associated with warm-water fishing around Cabo San Lucas. Their brilliant yellow, green and blue coloration makes them instantly recognizable, while their speed and surface-oriented fighting style can create exciting action around the boat.
They are also particularly enjoyable when fishing with a group.
When a dorado is jumping or changing direction near the surface, everyone aboard can become part of the moment, even when only one guest is holding the rod.
For Zach's group, the two dorado provided the primary gamefish component of the day's catch.
Two Bonito Add More Fishing Action From the Cabo Yacht
The other two fish recorded were bonito.
Both were released.
Bonito are fast, aggressive fish that can produce strong fights and additional action during an offshore day. They offer a different experience from dorado and can keep anglers involved while the crew continues searching for other gamefish.
The combination left the charter with four recorded fish across two species.
Historical fishing reports are valuable precisely because every day is different. They document what actually happened rather than suggesting that every 10-hour charter will produce the same result.
On July 20, the record was straightforward: two dorado and two bonito, with the bonito released.
Eleven Guests Make This Cabo Charter a Large Yacht Experience
The size of Zach's group was another important part of the day.
There were 11 guests aboard, including one child.
For a party of that size, the 60' Bertram Blue Sea provided the ability to keep everyone together for the entire charter rather than dividing the group among several smaller boats.
That becomes even more important when the trip lasts 10 hours.
Guests are not simply stepping aboard for a few hours of fishing. They are spending most of the day on the water, making space, food, beverage service and comfort meaningful parts of the experience.
Breakfast was provided during the morning. Lunch followed later, and an additiona
