A Patient Search Across Cabo Waters
Some fishing days announce themselves early. Others make the crew work for every opportunity.
August 3 fell into the second category.
With no dredge deployed, Captain Alex and the Blue Sea crew relied on their regular offshore presentations while searching for signs of life. Birds, bait, current movement, floating material and changes on the surface can all influence where a crew chooses to concentrate its effort.
The morning never developed into a high-volume bite, but persistence eventually produced two different species.
One Dorado Rewards the Cabo Search
The dorado became the principal gamefish of the charter.
Warm summer conditions around southern Baja can create good opportunities for these colorful pelagic fish, but their mobility makes them difficult to predict from one day to another.
Dorado can travel with bait or concentrate around floating structure and current changes. Even after one fish is located, there is no guarantee that others will follow.
For the Blue Sea anglers, one dorado represented the primary catch of the morning.
Skipjack Brings a Different Fight
The second fish was a skipjack.
Built for speed, skipjack can surprise anglers with powerful runs and sustained resistance. They provide a distinctly different experience from fighting a dorado and added some variety to a morning when bites were limited.

With one fish from each species, the charter finished with two different offshore encounters rather than multiple catches of the same fish.
A Larger Cabo Boat for Twelve Guests
The 60' Blue Sea Bertram gave the 12-person group substantial space during the six-hour trip.
That becomes particularly valuable on a slower fishing day. Guests have room to relax between opportunities while the captain and crew continue working to locate fish.
Fishing reports should represent those days as accurately as the spectacular ones.
On this morning, the Blue Sea didn't experience a double-digit bite. Instead, Captain Alex and the crew kept searching and produced one dorado and one skipjack before returning to Cabo San Lucas at 12:15 PM.
It was a genuine six-hour offshore fishing experience where persistence mattered more than volume.
