Located on a small island looking out into the Haida Gwaii archipelago, Prince Rupert fishing charters have their pick of some of the finest saltwater fishing in British Columbia. Whether you’re here for the ultimate angling challenge or simply an excellent meal, the experienced local guides will give you a fishing experience you’ll never forget.
What to Expect
Fishing is part of life in Prince Rupert. It’s what brought the town into existence and continues to drive its psyche today. It’s also heaven for visiting anglers. Spoiled for choice with tackle and bait shops, fisherfolk rarely leave here empty handed. And that’s before they even get on a boat!
The local waters are famous for their summer and fall Salmon runs, while mighty Halibut is a staple throughout the season. Come between May and October, and many charters will let you have a go at catching both in the same trip!
Depending on the time of year, you could find yourself battling the mighty Chinook (“King”) Salmon or the agile Coho. In fact, all five Pacific Salmon visit these waters during their migrations: Pink, Chum, and Sockeye are also on the menu. Otherwise, drop a line into the depths and, as well as Halibut, Lingcod and Rockfish could be waiting to get onto your line – and your dinner table.
How to Prepare
Most fishing charters in Prince Rupert provide everything you need for an exciting experience on the water. Just make sure you pick up a fishing licence from one of the local tackle shops, and you’ll be set for a day of fishing like a local. Catching these ocean monsters can be hard work, so bring along some snacks and drinks, too!
