Fishing in Apollo Beach

As one of the most productive fishing spots in the Sunshine State, Tampa Bay is the go-to destination for avid anglers everywhere. With the waters of the Gulf at your fingertips, Apollo Beach fishing is just as good as the action in more popular places in the area. Plus you get the added bonus of a more relaxed, enjoyable environment.

Tampa Bay offers amazing fishing year-round, with the Big Three (Snook, Tarpon, and Redfish) taking the top of the list. Aside from the challenge of getting that Inshore Slam, these waters are home to a variety of other prized fish. Inshore, you’ll get the chance to reel in Tripletail, Spotted Seatrout, Snapper, Sheepshead, King Mackerel, and Shark, while offshore you can target Cobia, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and Grouper.

Booking a half day trip will take you out to the bay, either inshore or offshore, which is a great introduction to this beautiful ecosystem. Full day trips are geared towards more serious anglers looking for a sportfishing adventure. If you’re looking to reel in a specific species, check out some of the specialized trips for the Silver King, Shark, or Goliath Grouper.

Fishing charters in Apollo Beach leave from one of the docks right on the waters of Tampa Bay, so you can expect to be fishing in no time. Cast a line as soon as you arrive, and see why this is one of the most loved fishing spots on the west coast of Florida!

Rules & Regulations

By booking a guided trip on a fishing charter, everyone on board will be covered by the captain’s license. Note that Tarpon has a strict catch-and-release policy, and make sure to consult your captain on the seasonality of other species.

Apollo Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Wintertime will see you fishing for Redfish, as it’s biting at this time of year. Apart from Redfish, you can catch some Trout and Snook, as well as smaller specimens of Black Drum and Sheepshead.

February

With the bay getting warmer and the sky clearer, this is a great time to do some sight fishing. Expect Redfish and Tarpon, and fill the freezer with Sheepshead!

March

As the spring comes in, the temperature’s perfect for exploring Tampa Bay in search of Snook, Trout, and Redfish inshore. Offshore, it’s a great time to target Mackerel, Cobia, and Blackfin Tuna.

April

This is when almost everything in the bay starts biting! You can start looking for that trophy Silver King. Redfish and Snook are biting as well, so don’t miss out.

May

The fishing is getting crazy, with all the species biting. Make sure to try and get that Inshore Slam by catching the Big Three – Redfish, Snook, and Tarpon.

June

June is the month of Redfish fishing in the shallow waters. Tampa Bay is full of Spanish Mackerel, and Mangrove snapper, as well as Trout this time of year.

July

Head out on the water in the early morning, or late in the evening for the best bite. Reel in Trout in the deeper waters, while targeting Snapper all over the bay.

August

Snook, Snapper, and Redfish are all biting, while you can also get Tarpon to bite if you manage to seek them out.

September

Tarpon is a possible catch late in the season if you look in the right places, while Redfish is the perfect sight fishing species with the beginning of the fall.

October

The Redfish bite is still great, so come get your own trophy specimen! Snook, Sheepshead, and Mangrove Snapper are all possible bites.

November

With the fall in full swing, Redfish, Trout, and Snook are all biting hot. You can hit the reefs as well, and reel in some big Spanish Mackerel.

December

With the water getting colder, the fish start to move, so you can expect some uncertainty when it comes to Tampa Bay fishing. Nevertheless, you’re sure to have fun!
