Located between Sarasota and Fort Myers, Englewood, FL is known for its untouched beaches, golf courses, and rich wildlife. However, Englewood’s fishing charters might just be the biggest attraction, bringing numerous tourists to the area every year. Founded as a fishing village in the 19th century, this town surely lives up to its history and honors its roots.

Inshore fishing on a half day trip will yield some truly impressive results! From massive Snook and feisty Redfish to hiding Trout – the variety of options available won’t disappoint. If you’re looking to reel in a trophy Silver King, a specialized trip can take you to Boca Grande – the “Tarpon Capital of the World.” Otherwise, you can visit the flats and mangroves for Cobia, Tripletail, King and Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, and Permit.

If you have some more time, cruise the deep offshore waters in search of some prized fish of the area. You’ll come face-to-gills with Red and Mangrove Snapper, Grouper, Barracuda, Amberjack, Mackerel, and even Tuna. Geared more towards experienced anglers, a full day offshore trip is an action-packed adventure you don’t want to miss.

With numerous fishing charters running out of Englewood, you’re in a great position to pick and choose your favorite one. You’ll find captains ready to take you out on a great expedition all along Lemon Bay, so just look for your ideal trip and fish on!

Rules & Regulations

Booking a trip with a licensed fishing charter means that your fishing license is covered, so you don’t have to worry about it. When it comes to other regulations, heading out with a reputable captain is the best way to make sure you’re fishing within the law, as closed seasons and bag limits apply to particular species.

January
Tarpon, Redfish, Trout, and Snook are roaming the inshore waters, so catch as many as you can. Or head out to reefs and focus on Spanish Mackerel and other nearshore species.
February
Go after Snook and Redfish swimming near the coast or venture out a bit farther and catch some Amberjack. But it doesn't end here – there are plenty of other fish in the sea!
March
Stay inshore and target Redfish and Trout or go exploring the deeper waters offshore. There, you'll find anything from Amberjack and Jack Crevalle to King Mackerel.
April
Fishing is heating up in every part of these waters. The inshore is exploding with Tarpon, Snook, Drum, and Trout, while deeper waters are all about Barracuda, Bonito, Kingfish, and Amberjack.
May
Snook and mighty Tarpon dominate the inshore waters. Offshore, you can target a variety of A-listers, including Grouper, Amberjack, Cobia, and other trophies – catch them if you can!
June
Tarpon, Redfish, and Snook are abundant inshore. Meanwhile, you can also expect some mind-blowing action when it comes to Yellowtail, Mutton, and, most importantly, Red Snapper!
July
Hit the reefs and deeper waters for some rod-bending fishing action. It's time to catch some Snapper, Grouper, Barracuda, and Jacks. Or have an equally productive day targeting Tarpon inshore.
August
Catching Tarpon and Snook inshore has never been more fun. If you'd like to go further out, expect to encounter some Amberjack, Cobia, Barracuda, and other amazing species.
September
Redfish, Tarpon, and Drum can be caught in the skinny waters inshore – don't miss the chance to chase after them. You can also go for King and Spanish Mackerel near reefs and wrecks.
October
Stay inshore and land some brag-worthy Snook and Redfish. But it's not all about the skinny waters – set sail and go out to the Gulf for some Amberjack, Cobia, and King Mackerel.
November
The weather is getting colder, but fishing is still hot, hot, hot! Catch anything from the inshore superstars to the likes of Grouper, Amberjack, Cobia, and King Mackerel offshore.
December
December is all about heading out and focusing on some of the biggest reef and nearshore species. With some luck, catch Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, and Jack Crevalle.

Try different types of fishing. On shore from beach you never know what you will catch. It is my favorite way to fish while relaxing in the sun with a drink! There are plenty of small fish along the shore for youngsters to catch using small hooks and frozen shrimp. it is non-stop action.

Only thing I was disappointed about was I didn't know that I should only have a fishing party of 4. I had 6 so we took turns fishing. It worked and captain Tim was very accomodating. We had a great time. I wish there was a way I could tell what the max fishing lines on boats are before booking.

Book a trip with Captain Ryan at Fin Crazy Charters. Also bring a few poles and fish from the beach. The snook fishing is very good. I mainly threw a 3/8 oz. jighead with a 4" grub. In the morning and evenings, the snook are extremely close to the shore. Within 5 feet of the beach. Took me awhile to figure out they were that close. Would catch 4 or 5 every morning and again in the evening and an occasional redfish as well.

Don't take a bunch of stuff on the boat. A couple of bottles of water per person, maybe a small snack. A small hand towel, sunglasses, camera and a hat. Sunscreen is a must. Leave the rest up to your Captain. Also, Captain Ryan Riegsecker, The Royal Palm Marina and Snook's Bayside Bar and Grill.

The original plan was to go off shore but because of wind conditions we stayed inside. The day turned out to be one of the best Florida fishing experiences I have ever had the pleasure to be part of. We caught several red fish and snook all of which put up great fights. Paul is a great guy fun to be around and knew exactly where the fish were . Cannot say enough about the morning fishing with Captain Paul. Thganks Paul for an outstanding day.

First time fishing from a boat with our 3 teenage kids. Captain Tim did a great job teaching us how to cast and reel in our fish. Took us to several locations during the 4-hour trip. Kids loved his dog, Lillie, who always let us know when there were dolphins nearby! Sighted several during the trip, which was an added bonus. Lots of fun had by all!

We went to half-day in the evening with Captain Paul and John. Went shark fishing caught some even though it wasn’t the best time of year for it. The boat was clean and well-maintained. Captain Paul worked very hard to get us a shark. Both guys were constantly chumming which which paid off for us able to catch a shark. Would recommend going out with him.

Captain Paul with hammertime was a pleasure to spend the day with on the water. Very personable and attentive making sure we were all constantly baited and pulling fish. Took us to a lot of different places to make sure we were successful and x we were! We pulled lots of key west fronts, and lane snappers, a nice sheepshead and porgy. Also caught red grouper but has to toss them back in due to being out of season . Would highly recommend Capt Paul!

We had an amazing experience with Captain Ron, who took on 6 novice fishermen! He was patient and awesome with the kids who had little experience with fishing! The waters were a little choppy and he did an excellent job of making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable. He is knowledgeable about the area and wildlife. We had such a good time and would highly recommend! Will definitely be back!

Captain Tim has a great set-up for access and ease of departure for the trip. We told him we wanted to catch some fish and it would be great if we brought some home for a good fish fry. He delivered! He knew where to go and how to fish it. We went home with dinner and had a great time landing some nice snook. On top of all that he was a personable and fun guy to go fishing with.

Capt Ron took my wife and I, our 6 year old son, and our father in law out for a 4hr window of fishing. It was so enjoyable! Capt Ron knows his stuff and his cool/calm/collected demeanor kept our novice nerves at bay. He taught us to bait our own hooks with shrimp and we were off. We caught so many snapper we lost count. Our 6 year old was just as thrilled as we were! Capt Ron filleted our keepers which set us up for an amazing dinner! I’d recommend fishing with Capt Ron any day!

Captain Tim Hermus was knowledgeable about where to find fish that were catchable for the weather conditions, tide, etc. He was extremely helpful with providing live-baited rods immediately after a fish or snag caused bait to be lost. More fishing time equals more fish caught! In other words, Tim knows how to make rain! :) Captain Tim will see to it that you have fun.
